Inter Milan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Josep Martinez from Genoa in a deal worth reportedly around €15 million.

The Nerazzurri have confirmed the Spain international’s arrival in an official announcement. Martinez has signed a five-year contract with Inter running until the end of June 2029.

This summer, one of Inter’s priorities has been to sign a goalkeeper.

The Nerazzurri have been looking to sign a young keeper. The idea, reportedly, is for the new keeper to back up Yann Sommer in goal next season – and then succeed the Swiss in the long term.

Inter have monitored a number of profiles to become their new keeper.

Athletico Paranaense and Brazil keeper Bento has been a name on Inter’s shortlist since last summer.

Meanwhile, Inter were linked to such keepers as Udinese’s Maduka Okoye and Lazio’s Christos Mandas from within Serie A.

And they also met with the agent of Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen last Wednesday.

In the end, it is indeed a keeper from within Serie A who arrives at Inter.

Inter Milan Sign Josep Martinez From Genoa

26-year-old Spanish international Martinez arrives at Inter from Genoa, signing on a five-year deal.

Martinez impressed with his shot-stopping last season, which was his first in Serie A.

The former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper was a key part of why Genoa were able to cement a place in midtable for themselves in their first season back in the top flight.

Martinez made 36 appearances for the Ligurian side in the league last campaign. He had previously made thirty appearances for Genoa in Serie B, helping them to win promotion.

Martinez has made a total of 68 appearances for the Grifone after joining from Leipzig in the summer of 2022.

Now, Inter have deemed the 26-year-old to be ready to take another step up.

Meanwhile, Martinez is also a full international for Spain. He has received one cap, starting a friendly against Lithuania in 2021.
