Inter Milan have abandoned their pursuits of Mario Hermoso and Ricardo Rodriguez, focusing on Jakub Kiwior and Robert Renan.

This according to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Potentially the last major signing Inter will make this summer will be for the left side of the defense.

The Nerazzurri had been on the verge of sealing a deal for Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal last week.

However, Juventus nipped in at the last moment. They made a higher offer than Inter for the Colombian, signing him.

Therefore, Inter are back to square one in their search for a defender.

But the profile that the Nerazzurri are aiming to sign remains the same as ever.

The strategy is to sign a left-footed defender who can back up Alessandro Bastoni.

That way the versatile Brazilian Carlos Augusto does not have to deputize for Bastoni. This will in turn allow him to play at wingback exclusively whilst Tajon Buchanan is out following a serious leg break.

Inter Abandon Hermoso & Rodriguez Pursuits – Kiwior & Renan The Main Targets

Inter have considered the possibility of moving for a player available on a free transfer.

Mario Hermoso was one option. The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired.

Hermoso has plenty of experience playing on the left of a back three.

Meanwhile, former AC Milan and Wolfsburg defender Rodriguez is both available on a free transfer, and also has significant experience playing in the role Inter are looking for.

However, in both cases, Inter owners Oaktree see them as too old. They prefer to invest in a younger player.

Therefore, Inter would be likelier to capitalize on the situation of Kiwior at Arsenal.

The former Spezia player wants to leave the Emirates in search of more playing time.

Kiwior is 24, therefore he would fall well within Oaktree’s desired age range.

Inter will aim to secure Kiwior on an initial loan deal, containing a purchase option.

Meanwhile, Renan is also a major target for Inter. However, the price tag for the Zenit St. Petersburg defender would make signing him trickier.
