Inter Milan are reportedly taking their time in their plans to sign a new defender this summer, refusing to make a hasty decision.

The Italian champions need a new left-footed centre-back as Carlos Augusto will return to play on the wings to cover for the injured Tajon Buchanan.

Hence, Beppe Marotta and company are searching the market for a profile capable of covering for Alessandro Bastoni in what will be a long and grueling campaign.

But according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri are in no rush to finalize a transfer.

The Serie A giants prefer to carefully reflect on their options, and bide their time until the right opportunity presents itself.

The Roman newspaper also names the three leading candidates for the role.

The first is Genoa’s Johan Vazquez. The 25-year-old is a Mexico international who has been plying his trade in the Port City since 2021.

He proved himself to be a reliable option at the back for Alberto Gilardino’s team last season.

Then we have Jakub Kiwior who’s looking to part ways with Arsenal this summer in search of additional playing time.

The former Spezia man has been a backup at Mikel Arteta’s court for 18 months. And with Riccardo Calafiori landing in North London, the Pole will find even less space next season.

The source also names Nathan Zeze as a third option. The 19-year-old is a Nantes youth product who made his way to the senior team last term.

On the other hand, Robert Renan is no longer among the main options. The 20-year-old Brazilian emerged as a possible target last week, but this track has swiftly faded.

Finally, 31-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez still has the esteem of Inter manager Simone Inzaghi. Nevertheless, the club owners Oaktree Capital are seeking a younger profile.
