Inter Milan are closing in on a deal to sign Talleres-owned Independiente Rivadivia defender Tomas Palacios.

This according to Argentine outlet La Arena, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri are ready to make a 6 million offer for the two clubs in order to bring the 21-year-old in.

Palacios is increasingly looking like he is the defender Inter have decided to sign before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri have cast a wide net in their search for a defender over the past few weeks.

There had been the idea of an experienced stopgap solution on a free transfer. The Berazzyrri considered the likes of Ricardo Rodriguez and Mario Hermoso.

Then, Inter had reportedly been on the verge of a deal for defender Juan Cabal before he instead joined Juventus.

Meanwhile the likes of Zenit St. Petersburg’s Robert Renan, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, and Genoa’s Johan Vazquez have also been on the Nerazzurri’s radar.

More recently, links have emerged to Nantes defender Nathan Zeze, Dinamo Zagreb defender Mauro Perkovic, and Valencia defender Yarek Gasiorowski.

However, after considering all of these possible targets Inter appear to have settled upon the idea of signing Palacios.

An important wrinkle in Palacios’s situation is the fact that he is currently on loan at Independiente Rivadivia from Talleres.

The former club have the option to buy the young Argentine at the end of his loan deal.

The loan runs out at the end of December of this year. And Rivadivia can sign him on a permanent basis at that point.

However, Inter’s interest means that Palacios is unlikely to even see out his loan at Rivadivia.

This makes things a bit tricky for the two clubs. They must now work out an agreement that would allow the loan to end a few months early and Palacios to join Inter.

As it happens, Rivadivia and Talleres are meeting in the Argentine league today.

Therefore, representatives from the two clubs will meet before the match, reports La Arena. They will aim to work out a formula that facilitates Palacios’s transfer to Inter.

And for their part, La Arena anticipate, Inter are ready to offer a total of 6 million to Rivadivia and Talleres in order to sign the 21-year-old defender.

The Argentine outlet report that the Nerazzurri are now moving fast. They want to beat the competition of RB Leipzig to sign Palacios.
