Inter Milan are strongly considering Tomas Palacios as their final defensive signing, but have yet to make their decision.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri are also still considering Barcelona’s Mikayil Faye.

For more than a month, Inter have been weighing up their options in defense.

The Nerazzurri haven’t hid the fact that they want to sign a left-footed defender. This would be to give Alessandro Bastoni a backup while Carlos Augusto covers at wingback with Tajon Buchanan out.

There had been the idea of an experienced stopgap solution on a free transfer. The Berazzyrri considered the likes of Ricardo Rodriguez and Mario Hermoso.

Then, Inter had reportedly been on the verge of a deal for defender Juan Cabal before he instead joined Juventus.

Meanwhile the likes of Zenit St. Petersburg’s Robert Renan, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, and Genoa’s Johan Vazquez have also been on the Nerazzurri’s radar.

More recently, links have emerged to Nantes defender Nathan Zeze, Dinamo Zagreb defender Mauro Perkovic, and Valencia defender Yarek Gasiorowski.

But in recent days, a new top candidate has emerged.

Inter Strongly Consider Tomas Palacios – But No Final Decision Yet

21-year-old defender Palacios has emerged on Inter’s radar in the last few days.

In terms of profile, Palacios would be a clear fit. He is left-footed and used to playing in a back three.

Moreover, the Argentine would certainly meet Inter owners Oaktree Capital’s requirement for investing in a younger player.

Palacios is currently on loan at Independient Rivadivia from Talleres.  However, the former can sign him on a permanent basis at the end of December for around 2 million.

Inter would hope to agree a deal with both Argentine clubs that would see Palacios’s loan spell end early, and then sign him from Talleres.

This would be a bit complicated considering all three clubs would work out an agreement.

However, Inter are confident that it will be possible.

Palacios has a value of around 7-8 million, reports the Corriere.

Meanwhile, there are clubs in the Bundesliga and the Premier League also eyeing up the 21-year-old, the Corriere reports. Borussia Monchengladbach and Stuttgart consider him a target.

However, Palacios has already given the green light on a move to Inter.

And if Inter don’t sign Palacios, the Corriere report, a move for Barcelona’s Faye would also be possible.

Rennes have made an offer of €10 million for the 20-year-old. Therefore, that would be the benchmark that Inter would have to match.
