Juventus keeper Michele Di Gregorio feels that Inter Milan are “a cut above” in Serie A.
The 27-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, via FCInterNews. He also gave the prediction that striker Romelu Lukaku will regain his Inter form at Napoli.
Former Inter keeper Di Gregorio made the move to Juventus this summer.
It was undoubtedly a bittersweet move for the keeper.
On the one hand, there is no doubt that joining the Bianconeri represents a massive step in Di Gregorio’s career.
Juventus have made the choice to invest big in Di Gregorio, and entrust the starting spot in goal to him.
This follows two seasons in which Di Gregorio had been one of Serie A’s top keepers with Monza.
But on the other hand, Di Gregorio is not just an Inter youth academy graduate.
The 27-year-old is also a lifelong Inter fan. Therefore, he is playing for the Nerazzurri’s bitter Derby d’Italia rivals.
Di Gregorio: “Inter A Cut Above In Serie A, Lukaku Will Regain Form At Napoli”
And as if there aren’t enough conflicting emotions for Gregorio after his transfer to Juventus, there is also the fact that Inter are undoubtedly his team’s main rivals for the title this season.
The Nerazzurri won the Serie A title in dominant fashion last time around.
But this campaign, Juventus look ready to push Inter all the way. At least going by the early signs.
For goalkeeper Di Gregorio, an Inter Serie A title would be one that he would not be able to celebrate.
The 27-year-old still admitted that “Inter are a cut above the rest.”
“Partly also because they’ve brought in some top players.”
“They did not have the same kinds of difficulties that Napoli, Juventus, Milan, and Roma have when they’ve changed coaches,” Di Gregorio said.
The new Juventus keeper anticipated that “It will be an open title race.”
“The one thing I don’t like is that the transfer window stays open after the season has started,” he added.
Meanwhile, Di Gregorio gave his thoughts on striker Lukaku’s move to Napoli. The Beglain reunites with coach Antonio Conte, with whom he worked very successfully at Inter.
“They’re a fantastic combination,” the Di Gregorio said of Lukaku and Conte. “Both from a footballing and also a personal standpoint.”
Di Gregorio predicted that “Lukaku will get back to the player that he was at Inter with Conte.”
“He’ll be able to drag even the less talented players in the team,” he said.
