Midfielder Davide Frattesi sent yet another clear message to Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi with his performance for Italy against France.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
It has become a widely-understood fact that Frattesi is more of an established starter for Italy than for Inter.
The 24-year-old has been regularly featuring for the Azzurri since he was at Sassuolo.
After establishing himself in Serie A with the Neroverdi, Frattesi started winning the trust of then-Italy coach Roberto Mancini.
And under Mancini’s successor Luciano Spalletti, Frattesi has become even more important.
The Inter midfielder is the player who seems to set the tone for Italy’s direct, high-intensity style of play.
Davide Frattesi Sends Message To Inter Coach Inzaghi With Italy Form
Frattesi is a midfielder who usually looks to drive at opposition defenses from midfield.
The 24-year-old is not a methodical player. He will look to take risks with his runs, whether with or without the ball.
There are certainly pros and cons to this style of play.
But so far, Inzaghi has not built his Inter midfield around it as Spalletti has done with Italy.
The Nerazzurri coach has chosen to focus on the technical polish and security of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella.
And the arrival of Piotr Zielinski this summer suggests that technical quality and passing will remain the key aspect in Inter’s midfield.
Frattesi, therefore, has remained principally an impact substitute since his arrival at Inter.
Inzaghi has certainly gotten a contribution from the Italian international coming off the bench. In matches where Inter need to go more direct, he has been the perfect addition.
But Frattesi’s form for Italy suggests that even if he lacks some of the experience and technicality of Inter’s other midfielders, he is not just an impact sub.
The 24-year-old has managed to be part of Italy’s best performances under Spalletti. The way that the Azzurri overran France on Friday was a testament.
Therefore, it is becoming increasingly hard for Inzaghi to ignore the potential of a starting eleven with Frattesi in it.
