Legendary former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello feels that Inter Milan are a “perfect machine” under Simone Inzaghi.
Capello gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. He also anticipated that Inzaghi will get his squad rotation right against Monza this evening.
Inter have picked up more or less where they left off last season in Serie A so far.
The Nerazzurri had a bit of a wobble in their very first match. They had to settle for a draw away to Genoa, a fixture they have not taken three points from since 2021.
However, convincing wins against Lecce and Atalanta suggest that Inter are ready to push for the Serie A title yet again.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League, Inter get their campaign up and running this week. They do so in their most difficult match of the “league phase” on paper, away to Manchester City.
But Inter won’t be fearful of that match.
The Nerazzurri have met City recently. They faced off with the Premier League juggernauts in final of the 2022-23 edition of the competition.
And despite the predictions that Inter would be underdogs, they very much went toe-to-toe with City.
Inter suffered the heartbreak of a 1-0 defeat in that final. But the run of play will give them confidence that they can get a result on Wednesday at the Etihad.
Fabio Capello: “Inter Milan Are A Perfect Machine”
Before Inter face City, however, there is this evening’s match against Monza for them to contend with.
It will be important for Inter to take three points to keep the momentum from before the international break going.
That is particularly the case after Juventus dropped points against Empoli yesterday. That has certainly opened a door.
The Nerazzurri will hardly be underestimating the Brianzoli as opposition.
Inter won both home and away last season against their Lombard rivals. But the season before, they failed to beat them in either match.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will undoubtedly have one eye on the match against City – and next weekend’s derby clash with AC Milan – when he makes his team selection.
But in the view of former Rossoneri and England coach Capello, Inzaghi should be able to get it right.
He writes that “Today Inter take to the pitch against Monza, and we’ll see if Simone Inzaghi will leave the regular starters on the bench.”
“The Nerazzurri seem to be the perfect machine,” he continues.
“If there is squad rotation, I expect that the Inter coach will do it in a rational way.”
“Particularly because these days with the five substitutions, it is possible to manage the situation in a more calm way,” Capello observes.
“I watched Manchester City’s match yesterday,” writes the former Milan coach of the English champions’ victory over Brenford.
“And Guardiola left out some starters there.”
Capello notes that “In the opening minutes the defense slipped up. But then Haaland took over and punished Brentford.”
“Having a centre-forward like that makes all the difference in the world,” he writes.
