Matteo Darmian says there are “no excuses” for Inter Milan following their performance against Man City with a derby collapse against AC Milan.
The 34-year-old spoke in a press conference after the 2-1 loss to the Rossoneri, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter experienced by far their biggest setback of the season yesterday evening.
The Nerazzurri had gone into the derby against city rivals AC Milan with the tag of big favourites.
Inter’s form this season so far had not been perfect. But there was a sense that they had maintained their momentum from last season more or less.
Milan, on the other hand, had endured a very tough start to the campaign.
The Rossoneri have had major growing pains in their first few weeks under coach Paulo Fonseca.
None of that was evident in the derby yesterday evening, however.
It was Inter who looked like the team without ideas and without energy.
Milan, by contrast, had a clear gameplan and the energy and physicality to execute it. They overran Inter in midfield and created by far more and better chances to score.
Darmian On Inter Derby Collapse After Man City Heroics: “No Excuses”
After yesterday’s match, Inter wingback Darmian said that “We’re not looking for excuses.”
“We lost today,” he continued. “And we drew the last two matches.”
“We could have done better. But we’re mature.”
Darmian said that “We know that winning the title again will be difficult – the start to this season has shown that.”
“But it’s not only tough for us.”
Asked if he thinks there were effects from Inter’s Champions League draw with Manchester City in the derby, Darmian replied honestly “I don’t think there was any hangover for us.”
“With these sorts of emotional matches, they prepare for themselves in terms of adrenaline,” he said.
“We didn’t start the match off well,” Darmian admitted. “Now we take this loss.”
“But from the youngest players to the most experienced, we still have a lot of hunger.”
