Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has given a clear message to the Inter Milan squad after their loss to AC Milan – “No excuses.”
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, relate the Nerazzurri coach’s message in training. He has insisted that at this level the standards are what they are.
Clearly, Inter were not up to par in the derby against Milan on Sunday.
The Nerazzurri saw a sequence of six straight victories in the derby come to a screeching halt.
And there was no luck in Milan’s victory. They were the superior side by a distance, creating more and better chances and looking more energetic and organized on both sides of the ball.
Today Inter return to training. And they have to reckon with what went wrong in that derby defeat.
Inzaghi Message To Inter Squad After AC Milan Loss: “No Excuses”
The Gazzetta report that Inzaghi has focused on the way that Inter started both halves of Sunday’s match in his team talk in training today.
There were positive spells for the Nerazzurri in the match. Particularly the closing stages of the first half as they played their way into the game.
But in Inzaghi’s view, his team lost the match with their starts to the two halves.
In the first half, Inter looked shellshocked by Milan’s pressing at times. The Rossoneri overran them, particularly in midfield, to find a deserved opening goal.
Then at the start of the second half, with the scoreline at 1-1, Inter failed to build on their positive finish to the first half.
There are certainly reasons for this deeply underwhelming performance by Inter.
The team lacked energy. And that could have had a lot to do with their efforts in midweek against Manchester City.
But Inzaghi has told his players that this simply cannot be excuse.
The standard for Inter has to be competing on all fronts. They can expect more tough double-headers like this week’s against City and Milan.
Therefore, the Gazzetta reports, Inzaghi wants this to be a clear and harsh lesson.
This is how it is, and the team must learn to cope.
