The Opta Predictor algorithm still considers Inter Milan to be big favourites for the Serie A title despite their derby loss to AC Milan.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note that the algorithm give the Nerazzurri a 77.65% chance of successfully defending their title.
Inter’s Serie A title hopes took their biggest hit yet in the derby on Sunday.
The Nerazzurri had already dropped points on a couple of occasions. They had drawn away to both Genoa and Monza.
However, there was a feeling that those were hardly decisive blows. Particularly so early on in the season.
Title rivals like Juventus, Npaoli, and Atalanta had also dropped some points early on.
And Inter’s city rivals AC Milan had a disastrous start to the campaign. They took just five points from their first four matches.
Therefore, Inter could afford to settle for a couple of draws.
But defeat in the derby was a different story.
Inter have now taken just eight points from fifteen available.
Moreover, the Nerazzurri have allowed their rivals to finally get some real momentum and confidence. Despite their bad start, Milan are now credibly in the title picture.
And beyond the result there is also the matter of Inter’s performance.
The Nerazzurri can obviously recover from a result in September. They are just a point behind Juventus and two behind Napoli.
Milan are still only level with Inter despite their statement win in the derby.
But if Inter continue to play like they did on Sunday, then it would be hard to imagine them amassing the points they need to successfully defend their title.
Opta Still Views Inter As Big Serie A Title Favourites
But football statistics company Opta still views Inter’s chances very favourably.
The Opta Predictor algorithm has rated the chances of every side in Serie A of going all the way and winning the title.
The algorithm takes a number of factors into account as far as teams’ chances of winning matches. Then it simulates every fixture in the Serie A calendar thousands of times.
The Predictor algorithm has taken the weekend’s derby result into consideration, along with every other match in the Italian top flight thus far.
And Opta considers Inter’s chances of winning the title to be a quite bullish 77.65%.
Meanwhile, the second most likely title winners in the Predictor algorithm’s view are Atalanta. Opta rates La Dea as having a 10.37% chances of winning the title.
Juventus, meanwhile, have a 7.07% chance of winning the Scudetto for the first time since 2020, per Opta.
