Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has delivered his verdict on the earth-shaking scandal involving several club fans.
Speaking to Sky Sport in the build-up to tonight’s UEFA Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade, as reported by FCInterNews, Marotta addressed the situation.
Indeed, Italian police arrested 19 people on Monday due to their alleged ties with the notorious mafia syndicate ‘Ndrangheta.
Many suspects are members of the Curva Nord and Curva Sud – famous fan groups of Inter and Milan.
Such allegations have overshadowed tonight’s match.
Furthermore, it has forced both clubs to reaffirm their stance against criminal involvement.
That’s not to mention full cooperation with authorities as the investigation unfolds.
Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta Addresses Major Scandal Involving Curva Nord Members
“I would like to reassure our fans and ourselves: as the magistrates said in the press conference, we are the injured party,” Marotta started.
“At the same time, we have guaranteed maximum collaboration to the judiciary, and we are totally available; we were before and we are more so today, through our lawyers we will always be present.
“Inter has security management entrusted to a former public order official who applies very strict protocols; we would always like to have these things applied.
“But there are phenomena that are often outside the institutional and corporate perimeter.”
The Inter chief executive explained how Inter are trying to keep their players out of the heat.
“We are all men of experience. Those who have less must find in us the point of reference, knowing that Inter is an upright club that acts in a very transparent way.
“These are the prerequisites for not fearing anything and for focusing on the game, trusting that the judiciary and law enforcement can do their job to remove the phenomenon of crime from the stadium.”
Last but not least, Marotta assessed Simone Inzaghi’s formation changes for tonight’s game.
“We have a competitive squad. I wouldn’t talk about starters and reserves.
“But about 25 players are available to Inzaghi, who uses them according to his intuition.
“He has his reasons for this formation, the eleven who will go on the field will be up to the task.
“The matches last 100 minutes, there will be room for changes.”
