Former Roma director of football Walter Sabatini is an admirer of Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, calling him a ‘fantastic coach.’

During his interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInter1908, Sabatini remembered former Inter star Sinisa Mihajlovic and hailed Inzaghi as an excellent tactician.

Mihajlovic, who called time on his playing career at Giuseppe Meazza in 2006, tragically passed away in December 2022.

A fierce competitor, Mihajlovic battled cancer until his final breath and never thought about leaving his managerial position at Bologna.

Unfortunately, the illness got the better of one of the best free-kick takers in football history.

However, Inter and all other Serie A fans will never forget Sinisa. Neither will Sabatini.

“I think about him every day,” Sabatini said. “And he would tell me to hurry up and recover completely and start doing what I like again.

“And if he didn’t like my answers, Sinisa would make a mess,” he recalled.

While Sabatini appreciates Antonio Conte’s stellar work at Napoli, he sees Inter as the leading contender for the Serie A title.

“Yes, even if the Nerazzurri remain the main candidates for the Scudetto.”

Unlike last season, Inter’s backline has cracked one too many times in 2024/25.

Inzaghi’s men have already conceded nine league goals.

Sabatini is aware of Inter’s surprising defensive leaks this term but still trusts Simone Inzaghi to lead them through the challenges.

“He is perfecting the use of rotation to be able to pursue both the Scudetto and the Champions League,” he was adamant.

“They have shown some fragility, but these are the things that can be solved. And then, they have a fantastic coach,’ Sabatini added.

Inter headed into October’s international break as runners-up, trailing early Serie A pacesetters Napoli by two points.
