Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij is not getting ahead of himself as far as links with a return to Feyenoord.

The Netherlands international spoke to Dutch outlet Foetbalzone, via FCInterNews. He played down the rumours that he could return to the Eredivisie.

De Vrij is now a player in his seventh season with Inter.

The 32-year-old has been at the Nerazzurri since joining on a free transfer from Lazio in the summer of 2018.

During his time at Inter, de Vrij has won the Serie A title twice. He has also helped the Nerazzurri to two Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies.

De Vrij is also a Europa League and Champions League runner-up with Inter.

The 32-year-old currently vies for the starting spot at Inter with another former Biancocelesti defender, Francesco Acerbi.

But what is clear is that de Vrij continues to very much have the trust of his coach Simone Inzaghi.

Inter Defender Stefan De Vrij Plays Down Rumours Of Feyenoord Return

At the moment, de Vrij is under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

The Dutchman is currently on the same deal that he signed last summer.

De Vrij had the opportunity to potentially leave Inter on a free transfer last summer. However, he instead decided to sign a two-year extension.

Now there is a question of whether Inter will offer de Vrij a new deal to keep him on next season. And of whether the 32-year-old’s priority would be to stay.

And if de Vrij were to be on his way, there have been persistent links with a return to Feyenoord.

The Dutchman said, however, that “As long as I continue to have an important role, I’ll be very happy at Inter.”

“It’s a top club,” he said of the Nerazzurri. “We play to win trophies.”

As far as the prospect of a return to Feyenoord, de Vrij said that “I can’t say anything yet.”

“I’m not saying that I prefer to stay in Italy. But there are a number of things to take into consideration when making a decision like that.”

“I still have a contract with Inter,” de Vrij made clear. “I’ll wait and see what happens next.”

“But I’m not thinking about that yet,” he said.
