AC Milan are ready to rival Inter Milan to sign Lille striker Jonathan David next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Rossoneri coach Paulo Fonseca could push to bring in the Canadian.

Lille and Canada striker David is all but certain to be one of the major free transfer opportunities next summer.

The 24-year-old’s current contract with Lille runs until the end of next June.

And there has been no indication that David would plan on signing an extension.

Therefore, David should be available on a free transfer when his deal expires.

And that is causing a lot of clubs in Europe to sit up and take note.

A good deal of the interest has centred around Serie A.

Juventus reportedly consider David as a potential target. But above all, it has been Inter who have been eyeing up a move for the Canadian.

The Nerazzurri’s propensity to seize upon free transfer opportunities is hardly a secret.

And David would certainly be another major coup in that respect.

AC Milan To Rival Inter For Jonathan David – Fonseca Could Push For Move

Another big team in Serie A keen on David are Inter’s city rivals Milan, according to the Gazzetta.

The Rossoneri could be looking to make a big attacking signing next summer.

Milan brought in former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on loan from Roma over the summer.

However, the Gazzetta report, the Englishman has yet to fully convince the Rossoneri.

Therefore, It is quite likely that Milan will be dipping into the market to sign a striker at the end of the season.

And David would certainly be a tempting option in that regard.

Moreover, Milan may have an ace up their sleeve as far as trying to beat out the competition for the Canadian’s signature.

Coach Paulo Fonseca joined Milan from Lille over the summer. He had spent several seasons working with David in Ligue 1.

The Canadian found his best scoring form playing under former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk coach Fonseca.

Therefore, the Portuguese coach could push to sign David. And the player could see a reunion with Fonseca as the right move.
