Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski has delivered an optimistic fitness update after picking up a hamstring problem on international duty.

During an interview with TVP Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the 30-year-old admitted he hopes to be available for the upcoming Serie A encounter against Roma.

Piotr Zielinski was on the scoresheet last night as Poland held Croatia to an enthralling 3-3 UEFA Nations League draw at home.

However, he picked up an injury in the process.

The former Napoli playmaker reportedly felt pain in his hamstring and had to come off late in the second half.

Given his previous fitness record, it would be a shame if the new physical setback forces him out of action again.

Zielinski joined Inter on a free transfer in the summer after running down his contract in Naples.

But after impressing in early summer friendlies, the Pole suffered a muscular problem. It had kept him out for over a month.

He has only recently returned to football fields.

Yet, a lack of match fitness has prevented him from making a Serie A start for the Nerazzurri this term.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan running out of steam, Zielinski was supposed to be his heir against Roma.

Unfortunately, that’s now in doubt.

Despite leaving the PGE Narodowy pitch in pain, Zielinski hopes to return to action immediately.

“I hope it’s nothing serious and that I can be available immediately,” he admitted.

“I felt a slight discomfort, we’ll see how the situation evolves.”

Inter will take on Ivan Juric’s team on Sunday in their first post-international break outing.

After putting together three consecutive wins before the pause, Simone Inzaghi’s men will be keen to pick up where they left off.

Anything other than three points would be an upset, with the Nerazzurri trailing early pacesetters Napoli by two.
