Former Nerazzurri captain Andrea Ranocchia feels Inter Milan and Juventus have never played a Derby d’Italia like yesterday’s thriller.

The Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus is certainly one of Italian football’s most important fixtures.

But it does not exactly have a reputation for entertainment value.

The Milan derby between the Nerazzurri and AC Milan is certainly a fixture that has produced some high-scoring, dramatic matches over the years, including recently.

But in the Derby d’Italia, there have often been cagey matches. 1-0 scorelines are not uncommon.

However, yesterday evening Inter and Juventus put on a spectacle that can rival anything that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have done in living memory.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri held the lead at various points over the course of the Serie A showdown.

But in the end, it was a 4-4 draw for the two giants of Italian football.

Andrea Ranocchia: “There’s Never Been An Inter Vs Juventus Match Like That”

Former defender Ranocchia played in his share of matches against Juventus.

He called yesterday’s outing a “very strange match.”

“In my opinion, there’s never been an Inter Juve match like that,” the former defender said. “In terms of entertainment value, we certainly all enjoyed it.”

“The two teams both have complaints from different moments of the match.”

“It was a strange match because Juve have conceded very little so far in the season,” Ranocchia noted. “And last season for Inter, if Sommer made one save it was a lot.”

Ranocchia continued that “It’s different in the Premier League.”

“If you score a lot of goals to win the match, even if you concede a lot, the fans and public opinion don’t care much,” the former Inter captain said.

“They want their football to be a real spectacle.”

“We don’t,” the former defender compared the Italian football attitude. “It’s a cultural thing. We’re used to something different.”

“It’s no coincidence that Italian catenaccio has been famous for years,” Ranocchia suggested.
