Cagliari full-back Gabriele Zappa revealed he was an AC Milan fan in his early years, but eventually grew fond of Inter Milan after joining the club.
The 24-year-old has been on the map for a few years now, but he enjoyed his finest hour in Serie A last Saturday.
The right-back helped the Sardinians clinch a valuable point against Milan, scoring two wonderful goals in the thrilling 3-3 draw. This includes a sensational late volley that left Mike Maignan with no chance.
Zappa’s heroics even upstaged Rafael Leao who had scored a brace of his own in the first half.
He could have even scored a third goal, but his teammate Nicolas Viola decided to put his foot through it while in an offside position, even though the ball was heading goalwards.
The young man admits is still in disbelief, revealing how he received compliments from Milan defender Matteo Gabbia.
“I still have a hard time believing it,” said the Cagliari star in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.
“In the morning when I woke up, I found a message from Gabbia who is a good friend of mine. He said ‘Damn you, but congratulations.'”
Cagliari Full-Back Gabriele Zappa Remains Fond Of Both AC Milan & Inter Milan
Zappa admitted he was a Milan fan growing up, but he then became an Inter supporter after rising through the club’s ranks.
“Yes, I used to support Milan. But then, after joining Inter and becoming close to the first team, you can’t help but support them.
“Today, in the Champions League I support both of them. Even if when I’m at home I take a break from football, I don’t always watch the matches.”
Zappa has been plying his trade at Cagliari since making the move from Pescara in the summer of 2020.
