Spezia sporting director Stefano Melissano comments on the future of Inter Milan transfer target Nicolo Bertola, insisting they won’t prevent him from joining a top-flight club.

The 21-year-old rose to prominence this season, establishing himself as a stalwart for the Aquilotti who are pushing for promotion.

The young defender has been almost omnipresent in the starting lineup. He has made 13 appearances in Serie B thus far this season, and even scored three goals in the process.

The imposing defender has thus earned himself several suitors in Serie A, and chief among them Inter Milan.

For their part, Spezia have no intention of denying the youngster from making an important career step up.

However, the Ligurians are still hoping to preserve their interests by renewing the player’s contract which will expire at the end of the season.

“More than a month ago, we made an important proposal to the player’s agents,” revealed Melissano in his interview with La Nazione via FcInterNews.

“We are waiting for a response. The lad remains calm, he cares about Spezia. We will try to find a solution that can satisfy everyone. We hope that Nicolò renews.

“However, in the event of a call from Serie A, Spezia will not prevent him from moving up a category. If the response is negative, we will try to find a solution on the Kouda model.”

Rachid Kouda is a young midfielder that Spezia sold to Parma last summer, but kept him on loan until June 2025.

As reported earlier today, Inter director Dario Baccin held a meeting with Melissano to discuss Bertola’s future.

The source revealed that Spezia would be open to taking an Inter player in exchange to the Italy U21 starlet.
