Inter Milan are ready to breath a sigh of relief after initial tests suggested that midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has not sustained a significant injury on international duty.

As reported by Italian television station Sky Sport Italia and in a tweet by journalist Marco Barzaghi, and via FCInterNews.it, Calhanoglu appears to have avoided a serious muscle injury after an initial MRI scan.

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was taken off at half time of Turkiye’s goalless draw against Wales in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday evening after an injury scare to his thigh.

However, any serious damage appears to have been ruled out and Calhanoglu will now be monitored in the coming days.

The Turkish medical staff and their counterparts at Inter are now in communication ahead of Calhanoglu’s return to Milan this week, and a fitness plan to avoid any further damage will be put into place.

The 30-year-old is due back at Inter on Wednesday and will be monitored from there going forward.
