Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi faces numerous difficulties as he bids to defy the Scudetto curse after winning his first Serie A title last term.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the reigning holders remain the favorites to lift the crown, boasting the most formidable squad in the division.
However, the best team doesn’t always win. That’s been particularly true in Serie A in recent years.
Since the famous ‘Juvecracy’ spanning nine seasons, no defending Serie A champion has retained the title.
This ominous trend began with Inter, who ended Juventus’ long-term reign of dominance in 2020/21 under Antonio Conte.
Despite entering the title-defending 2021/22 campaign as favorites, the Nerazzurri surrendered the throne to AC Milan.
Like Inter, the Rossoneri came nowhere near defending their crown in 2022/23 as Napoli strolled to their third Scudetto.
But the Partenopei perhaps best illustrated the potency of the ‘Scudetto curse’ last term.
Indeed, they finished 10th, a whopping 41 points behind Inter.
After cruising to their 20th Scudetto, Inzaghi’s men are determined to buck this trend this season.
Inter Milan Boss Simone Inzaghi Eager to Defy Scudetto Curse
The battle for the Serie A title looks tougher than ever before.
With Napoli back on track under Conte and Juventus yet to lose under Thiago Motta, Inzaghi’s task is nothing short of Herculean.
As if that’s not challenging enough, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lazio are having a season to remember.
Then, there’s out-of-sorts Milan, a side that deserves the benefit of the doubt despite a stuttering start.
Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi is seemingly eager to inspire Inter to UEFA Champions League glory.
His hopes of achieving continental success could be the scourge of Inter’s domestic aspirations.
However, if Inzaghi can find a balance between the competitions, Inter could be on track for a coveted double.
Their next domestic assignment takes them to Hellas Verona on Saturday.
