Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has not suffered an injury and will be fit for next week’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig,
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that today’s training will be decisive for determining whether the Turk can feature against Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Inter have been holding their breath a bit regarding the fitness of midfielder Calhanoglu.
The 30-year-old former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is a vital player in the Nerazzurri’s midfield.
And Calhganoglu has had a bit of a fitness scare during the international break.
Calhanoglu, who is the captain of the Turkish national team, started in a Nations League match against Wales last week.
However, the Inter midfielder had to come off after feeling some muscular pain.
This was a worry considering that Calhanoglu had only just come back from a thigh problem.
Calhanoglu picked up a thigh strain in last month’s Serie A match against Roma. This caused the Turkish international to miss four matches between Serie A and the Champions League.
No Injury For Hakan Calhanoglu – Fit For RB Leipzig Clash
Calhanoglu returned for Inter in a Serie A clash against Veneizia at the start of November.
And the Turk was back in the Nerazzurri starting eleven for huge matches against the likes of Arsenal and Napoli.
Calhanoglu underlined his importance to the team with his performances in those two matches.
Therefore, Inter will hardly have welcomed the sight of Calhanoglu having to limp off during the international break.
But today, Calhanoglu underwent tests with the Nerazzurri medical staff, reports Sky.
And the tests were positive, according to the broadcaster. They did not indicate that the 30-year-old midfielder has suffered any sort of injury.
Therefore, Calhanoglu should be able to make a fairly swift return to the pitch.
That does not necessarily mean that Calhanoglu will be ready to feature in Inter’s first match back from the break. They take on Hellas Verona in Serie A on Saturday afternoon.
Calhanoglu will train today. If he is looking in the right condition, he will be part of the squad to face Verona.
But if there are any doubts about Calhanoglu’s sharpness, he will hardly be risked on Saturday.
In that case, however, there is no doubt that the 30-year-old will be ready for Inter’s following match. The Nerazzurri take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League next week.
In the meantime, Calhanoglu’s main deputy in the Inter squad Kristjan Asllani would be ready to start on Saturday.
