Fiorentina forward Albert Gudmundsson will be back from injury in time for his team’s Serie A clash with Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter and Fiorentina are currently among the teams duelling at the top of the Serie A table.
Both the Nerazzurri and La Viola currently sit on 25 points in the table.
For Inter, it is hardly a surprise to see them in the top places. The Nerazzurri are the reigning champions of Italy, having won last season’s Serie A title in dominant fashion.
On the other hand, Fiorentina have been one of this season’s surprise packages.
The Tuscans had a massive summer overhaul. They replaced Vincenzo Italiano with Raffaele Palladino as head coach.
And there was a raft of big name signings to replace a number of players who had left.
In the first few matches of the campaign there was a tough adjustment period. However, once La Viola found their feet they have been one of the most in-form teams in Serie A.
Fiorentina Forward Albert Gudmundsson To Return For Inter Clash
One player who has had a big impact for Fiorentina has been Icelandic international Albert Gudmundsson.
La Viola signed Gudmundsson from Genoa during the summer transfer window.
Inter had also reportedly had a strong interest in the Icelander prior to Fiorentina clinching his signature.
Gudmundsson was one of last season’s breakout stars in Serie A. And his form for Fiorentina has continued along those lines.
But if there has been a problem for Gudmundsson at Fiorentina, it has concerned his fitness and availability.
The 27-year-old former AZ Alkmaar forward has suffered a couple niggling muscle injuries.
Gudmundsson is currently out with a hamstring problem.
And according to Tuttosport, that will see the Icelander miss Fiorentina’s first match back from the international break. That will be against Como in Serie A.
However, the newspaper reports, Gudmundsson should be able to return to the Viola squad in time for next Thursday’s Europa Conference League match against Cypriot team Pafos.
And by the time of next weekend’s Serie A showdown with Inter, Gudmundsson should be fully bedded back into the Fiorentina squad.
