Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will not be called up for tomorrow’s Serie A match away to Hellas Verona.

This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the priority will be for the Turk to stay behind and focus on his recovery for Tuesday’s match against RB Leipzig.

Midfielder Calhanoglu had an injury scare during the international break.

Calhanoglu, who is the captain of the Turkey national team, started in last week’s Nation’s League match against Wales.

However, Calhanoglu was forced off during that match after feeling some discomfort in his thigh.

This was particularly worrying considering that Calhanoglu had only just come back from a thigh injury.

The 30-year-old had suffered a strain in his thigh during last month’s Serie A match against Roma.

That had caused Calhanoglu to miss four matches for Inter between Serie A and the Champions League.

The Turkish international had returned to start in matches against Napoli and Arsenal.

Hakan Calhanoglu Won’t Be Risked In Hellas Verona Vs Inter Clash

Yesterday, Inter breathed a sigh of relief regarding Calhanoglu’s fitness.

The 30-year-old underwent tests with the Nerazzurri’s medical staff. These revealed that he had not suffered a serious injury.

Therefore, Calhanoglu has managed to return to training already.

However, the Turk is still far from his best. He is lacking some freshness and match-sharpness.

Therefore, involvement in Inter’s next match would be a risk for Calhanoglu.

The Nerazzurri take on Hellas Verona in Serie A tomorrow afternoon, their first match back from the international break.

Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi wants zero risks taken with Calhanoglu’s fitness. The former AC Milan midfielder is a vital player for the Nerazzurri, and aggravating an injury is the last thing Inzaghi wants.

Therefore, Inzaghi will not call up Calhanoglu to travel with the rest of the squad for tomorrow’s match.

Instead, the 30-year-old will stay in Milan and work on getting back to his best condition.

The target will be to have Calhanoglu fully fit for next week’s Champions League showdown with RB Leipzig.
