The returns of Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez will certainly be a big boost for Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

It is safe to say that Inter did not miss either Calhanoglu or Martinez too much over the weekend.

Midfielder Calhanoglu was absent due to a muscle knock as Inter took on Hellas Verona. And Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez pulled out of the squad due to flu-like symptoms.

Inter were able to not just win, but do so in some style in the pair’s absence. They beat Verona 5-0 to get off to a flying start on their return from the international break.

That is a testament to Inter’s squad depth.

Kristjan Asllani filled in very well for Calhanoglu at the base of Inter’s midfield trio. And Joaquin Correa enjoyed a star turn in attack in Martinez’s attack, with a goal and two assists.

Moreover, Inter coach Inzaghi showed that he has built a team that can retain a strong identity even in the absence of its biggest names with how the team played without Calhanoglu and Martinez.

Calhanoglu & Lautaro Returns A Big Boost For Inter Coach Inzaghi

The fact remains, however, that Calhanoglu and Martinez are hugely important players for Inter.

The pair were arguably the Nerazzurri’s two outstanding performers last season as they won the Serie A title by a margin of nearly twenty points.

Therefore, having both back is very welcome news for Inzaghi.

The Inter coach can call on significant technical quality, experience, and leadership as he gets ready to make changes to the starting eleven.

There will be a lot of big matches on the way for Inter.

Tomorrow, the Nerazzurri take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Then there will be outings against the likes of Fiorentina, Parma, Bayer Leverkusen, and Lazio.

And Inter coach Inzaghi will certainly be happy to have Calhanoglu and Martinez at his disposal for those matches.
