Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi is likely to be back against Parma in Serie A, as his thigh injury is not serious.
This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They anticipate that the Italian international will miss matches against RB Leipzig in the Champions League and Fiorentina in Serie A.
Acerbi started for Inter in Saturday afternoon’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona.
That match was the Nerazzurri’s first back from the international break.
Acerbi had not been part of the Italy squad during the break. He stayed behind in Milan to train with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
However, Acerbi suffered a physical issue during the first half of Saturday’s match.
Around fifteen minutes into the match, Acerbi stretched to make a tackle and clear the ball. Immediately after the challenge, the Inter defender was in evident discomfort.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi immediately reacted by making a substitution. Stefan de Vrij replaced Acerbi from the bench.
Inter Defender Francesco Acerbi Aiming To Return Vs Parma – Thigh Injury Not Serious
This morning, Acerbi underwent tests with the Inter medical staff.
These confirmed what was suspected on Saturday, that Acerbi had suffered a thigh injury.
Inter have confirmed that the problem for the 36-year-old is an elongation of the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh.
Therefore, Acerbi is currently on the sidelines. He will not be part of Inter’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig tomorrow.
Moreover, that will not be the only match that Acerbi misses, reports FCIN.
It would be unrealistic to expect that former Lazio and Sassuolo defender to return in time for Inter’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina next Sunday.
However, the injury is not an overly serious one.
Therefore, FCIN reports, Acerbi should be able to recover in time for the following match. That will be against Parma in Serie A next month.
