Defender Stefan de Vrij is ready to come into the Inter Milan starting eleven for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Dutch international de Vrij did actually play the majority of Inter’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona.

The 32-year-old came on for fellow former Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi early on in the first half.

Acerbi was only able to see out fifteen minutes of the match before a thigh injury forced him off.

Therefore, de Vrij came on a lot earlier than he would have expected.

The Dutchman had to come up to the pace of the match quickly. And he did so very well.

The scoreline was still 0-0 when de Vrij came on against Verona.

But the Dutchman more than played his part as Inter stormed to a 5-0 lead in the first half.

De Vrij barely put a foot wrong in defense, keeping Verona strikers Casper Tengstedt and Daniel Mosquera very quiet.

And the 32-year-old also had a big impact going forward. It was de Vrij’s run that started the move for Inter’s opening goal, whilst he got on the scoresheet for the first time this season for Inter’s fourth.

Stefan De Vrij Ready To Start Inter Vs RB Leipzig UCL Showdown

Inter defender Acerbi underwent tests today with the Nerazzurri medical staff.

These tests confirmed that the 36-year-old has indeed suffered a thigh strain.

Therefore, Acerbi will be out of the Inter squad for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

That means that de Vrij will certainly get the starting berth.

And the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender is ready to take his chance.

De Vrij showed his quality and experience in Saturday’s match against Verona.

And the 32-year-old will be the player marshalling Inter’s penalty area from the start tomorrow.
