Wingback Denzel Dumfries feels that it is “special” to extend his contract with Inter Milan, and says that he “loves” the club.
Dumfries spoke to InterTV after confirming his new deal with the Nerazzurri until the end of June 2028, via FCInterNews. He also talked about his desire to improve his consistency.
28-year-old Dutch international wingback Dumfries has signed a new contract with Inter.
The Dutchman’s previous deal had been set to expire at the end of next June.
Therefore, it was important for Inter to tie Dumfries down on a new contract. Otherwise they would have risked losing him on a free transfer as with Milan Skriniar.
Negotiations have been ongoing for the past twelve months ago. And they have finally led to Dumfries putting pen to paper.
Denzel Dumfries Happy With “Special” Contract Extension: “I Love Inter Milan”
Dumfries commented that he is “very proud” after signing his new contract with Inter.
“It’s a very special moment for me,” the Dutchman said. “I arrived here three years ago, and now I’ve earned a new contract.”
“These have been three wonderful years,” Dumfries said.
“I’m very proud to continue my journey with Inter.”
“These three years have been fantastic,” Dumfries said. “Particularly winning the Scudetto last season.”
“That was a very special moment, and very emotional for everyone.”
“We worked hard to get there,” Dumfries said of Inter’s Serie A title triumph.
“Overall, the last three years have been full of emotion. I feel at home here and I’m very happy to move forward with Inter.”
“I came here three years ago after the Euros and the time I’d been at PSV,” Dumfries looked back.
“I’ve grown a lot as a player, and as a person.”
“I’m very happy that Inter gave me this opportunity, and that we’re growing together.”
Dumfries Credits Inzaghi For Improvements, Hopes To Become More Consistent
Dumfries noted that Inter “I’ve matured a lot as a player.”
“I’ve developed, and made the kind of football played in Italy my own,” the 28-year-old said.
“I’ve improved a lot, thanks to the coaching staff and to my coach Inzaghi,” Dumfries said. “They’ve made it possible for me to continually improve as a footballer.”
As far as where he feels that he still has more work to do, Dumfries said that “I’d like to become more consistent.”
“I want to be as reliable as possible on the pitch,” the Dutchman insisted.
“I’ve been working hard from day one. And I’m already very happy with my growth.”
“There have been a lot of improvements every day,” Dumfries said. “And I work hard every day to further improve myself.”
Inter Want To Win The Champions League, Says Dumfries
For this season, Dumfries isn’t hiding Inter’s ambitions. “Against Leipzig we brought home another big Champions League win,” he noted.
“For us winning the Champions League is one of our goals,” the 28-year-old made clear.
“As is winning the league.”
“In general we want to win every trophy on offer, and be competitive in each match and competition.”
“Those are the goals we’ve set for ourselves as a team,” Dumfries declared.
And then Dumfries closed with a message for the Inter supporters. “I want to thank the Nerazzurri fans,” he said.
“From my first day here they’ve really made me feel at home,” the Dutchman continued.
“I hope that I can share more beautiful moments with you all,” Dumfries said. “And that there are many more chances to do so.”
