Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta feels that Lautaro Martinez “deserves more respect” after he wasn’t nominated for FIFA’s The Best award.

The Nerazzurri President reacted to his club’s captain not being among the nominees for the award speaking to Italian news service ANSA, via FCInterNews.

Inter captain Martinez was not among the eleven players to receive a nomination for FIFA’s The Best award.

The Argentine was among three Inter players to receive a nomination for the “best eleven” of the year at the ceremony.

But Martinez did not get the nod as a possible candidate for the best player in the world year.

That is despite the fact that Martinez led Inter to the Serie A title as captain. He was also top scorer in the division last season.

Martinez was also the top scorer at the Copa America as Argentina won the trophy. The Nerazzurri captain scored the winner in the final against Colombia.

Inter President Marotta: “Lautaro Martinez Deserves More Respect” After FIFA The Best Snub

“It was surprising and disappointing that Lautaro Martinez was not among the nominees for FIFA’s The Best men’s player award after he had an exceptional season,” said Inter President Marotta.

“His extraordinary performances contributed to Inter reaching an historic goal,” the Nerazzurri President noted.

“And to the Argentine national team winning the Copa America.”

“Furthermore, in both competitions he was the top scorer,” Marotta noted.

“Lautaro deserves more respect and recognition,” the Inter President insisted.

Marotta argued that “This exclusion seems to not only ignore the numbers and the trophies, but also the impact he had in decisive matches.”

“This sends a negative message,” Marotta argued.

“Players who stand out at such a high level should be rewarded.”

He concluded, “Let’s hope that in the future players who, like Lautaro, shine on the pitch get due recognition.”

Inter captain Martinez finished seventh in Ballon d’Or voting last month, meanwhile.
