Opta Predicts – Only Liverpool Have Greater Chance Of Winning Champions League Than Inter Milan

Football statistics account Opta predict that only Liverpool have a better chance of winning the Champions League than Inter Milan.

As FCInterNews highlights, Opta give the Nerazzurri a better than one-in-four chance of reaching the final of Europe’s top club competition for the second time in just three seasons.

This season has seen a change to the format of the Champions League.

The switch from a group stage with groups of four teams to a “league phase” in which each participating side faces eight different opponents has given teams a new kind of challenge to navigate.

And there are some teams that have coped with it better than others.

The likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich have not been as dominant as they’d have liked – or expected – under the new format.

Meanwhile, there are two teams in particular who are riding high at the top of the “league phase” table.

Premier League giants Liverpool have yet to slip up in Europe.

The Reds, who are also at the top of the Premier League table, have won all five of their matches in the competition so far.

This has included tough matchups against the likes of AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, and Real Madrid.

Inter, meanwhile, are not far behind. After a goalless draw away to Manchester City in their Champions League opener, Inter have beaten all of Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, Arsenal, and RB Leipzig.

Moreover, Inter have yet to concede a single goal across five matches in the competition.

In the view of Opta, Liverpool have a 99.7% chance of qualifying directly for the round of sixteen. That is not exactly a surprise.

Meanwhile, Opta considers it likelier than not that Arne Slot’s team will reach the final. The football stats account gives them a 51.3% chance.

And Opta view Liverpool as having a 20.7% chance of going all the way and winning the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Opta consider Inter to have a 98.2% chance of winning the Champions League.

As far as reaching the final, Opta give Inter a 26.8% chance. And then, the account considers the Nerazzurri to have a 14.9% chance of winning the competition.
