Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez saw his goalscoring woes continue with another blunt performance against Parma in Serie A.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, criticize the Argentine’s display in the 3-1 Serie A win.

Last season was Martinez’s third in a row as Inter’s top scorer. And he was also the top scorer for all of Serie A as the Nerazzurri romped to the title.

There is little question of Martinez proficiency in front of goal when he’s at his best.

But this season, Martinez has too often not been at his best.

If there is a major fault in the Argentine’s game it is the goal droughts that he seems to go through.

These tend to be the result of a bit of a lack of sharpness and dynamism in the penalty area.

And that was on show yesterday against Parma.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Criticized For Blunt Display Vs Parma

Martinez led the line the way he usually does yesterday.

There were several moments of good linkup play, and the usual defensive effort.

But for as desperate as Martinez looked for a goal, he never really looked like getting the better of the Parma backline.

Referee Rosario Abisso twice pointed to the spot after an incident involving Martinez.

However, in the first instance, the foul on the Inter captain happened outside the penalty area. And in the second, there was no foul at all.

Meanwhile, Martinez did have one great chance from which he shot wide. And another was straight at Parma keeper Zion Suzuki.

Beyond that, Martinez lacked explosiveness and cutting edge. This allowed the Parma centre-backs to prevent him from having that much of an impact.
