Simone Inzaghi will be hoping that he can find the goalscoring form he’s had for Argentina in an Inter Milan shirt soon.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
If there’s a major criticism for Martinez as a striker, it’s that he tends to be streaky with his goals.
When the Inter captain is in form, he’s relentless and virtually impossible to stop from finding the back of the net.
But on the other hand, Martinez does have phases of goal droughts. Sometimes for weeks at a time, he doesn’t look his sharpest close to goal.
Inzaghi Hopes Lautaro Martinez Can Find Argentina Scoring Form At Inter
Moreover, there is the fact that Martinez has often seemed to alternate in scoring form for club and country.
There is no doubt that the 27-year-old is prolific both for Inter.
For the Nerazzurri, Martinez has been the top scorer in three seasons in a row. And for the Albiceleste, he has recently equalled Diego Armando Maradon’s goalscoring total.
But the best periods for club and country have rarely coincided for Martinez.
In the 2022-23 season, Martinez consistently banged in goals for Inter. But he had a miserable World Cup with Argentina in midseason, failing to score or assist a goal.
Last campaign, Martinez arguably had his best ever season at Inter. His goals powered the Nerazzurri’s title charge for many months.
But around March, Martinez’s scoring rate for Inter came to a dramatic halt.
However, in the summer, Martinez powered Argentina to the Copa America title as the competition’s top scorer.
Yet in the first few months of the club season, the Argentine has managed just six goals for Inter across all competitions.
This all seems very paradoxical. Not least with Martinez having netted twice in two matches for Argentina during the last international break.
Now, Inter coach Inzaghi will be hoping that Martinez can finally harmonize his goalscoring exploits for his club and national teams.
