Atalanta will trade tackles with Inter Milan on Thursday without an out-and-out striker, with Gianluca Scamacca and Matteo Retegui injured.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Matteo Ruggeri has recovered from a minor fitness problem.

Ruggeri trained with the rest of Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad yesterday.

Therefore, he’ll be in contention for the starting XI when Atalanta take on Inter Milan at the Kingdom Arena.

With a place in the Supercoppa Italiana at stake, Gasperini needs all the help he can get to avenge September’s 4-0 rout.

However, he’ll have to navigate this showdown without his towering center-forwards.

Mateo Retegui & Gianluca Scamacca Unavailable for Inter Milan vs Atalanta Clash

Scamacca has been out of action since last summer.

Indeed, his long-term injury forced Atalanta to sign Retegui from Genoa in a deal worth a reported €28 million.

Given Retegui’s early impact, Scamacca’s absence has been a blessing in disguise.

The 25-year-old is Serie A’s joint-top scorer with Inter’s Marcus Thuram.

Both players have scored 12 goals each, highlighting Retegui’s significance to Gasperini’s tactical set-up.

Therefore, his omission comes as a massive boost for Inter.

However, Atalanta can still rely on Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere to shoulder the goalscoring burden.
