The return of captain Lautaro Martinez to form could be the best news of all for Inter Milan heading to the decisive part of the season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter captain Martinez has been back on the scoresheet in recent weeks.

The Argentine had went through a goal drought that lasted nearly two months.

However, Martinez snapped that scoreless streak in Inter’s Serie A win away to Cagliari at the end of December. And from there, he hasn’t looked back.

Martinez has scored against AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final, and then Bologna in Serie A.

Moreover, the Argentine’s goals have showed him looking ruthless in the penalty area in a way that he hadn’t earlier on in the season.

Beyond the goals, Martinez’s overall performances have looked extremely dynamic. And his technical quality was on full display against Bologna.

Inter hadn’t necessarily suffered too much during Martinez’s down period during the autumn.

The Nerazzurri were able to rely on Marcus Thuram as a regular source of goals.

Then, Inter were also finding the net through midfielders and defenders regularly.

But having Martinez back to his best certainly gives Inter more certainty in the final third.

The 27-year-old is a talismanic figure for Inter. He’s been the team’s top scorer in each of the past three seasons.

If Martinez is both scoring regularly and contributing to the attack overall at a high level, it will take some of the pressure off of the rest of the team to step up in the final third.

With so many decisive matches on the way across multiple competitions, that is certainly good news for Inter.
