Referee Federico La Penna wasn’t up to the task in Monday’s Serie A showdown between Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, La Penna’s decisions overshadowed Inter’s dominant 2-1 win.

Though the scoreline was tight, Simone Inzaghi must be pleased with his side’s performance last night.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri had Raffaele Palladino’s charges on the ropes all night but often lacked the final touch.

For context, Inter attempted 22 shots to Fiorentina’s seven, generating an impressive 2.17 xG.

However, La Penna’s calls left Inzaghi with a bittersweet taste.

Federico La Penna Unimpressive in Inter Milan Win vs Fiorentina

For starters, La Penna gave Inter a corner that led to the opening goal, though the ball was already out of play.

Then, he made another dubious call after VAR summoned him to double-check the incident inside Inter’s box.

Indeed, he penalized Matteo Darmian’s handball, though it was a 50/50 decision.

Despite La Penna’s blunders, Inter returned to the win column in phenomenal fashion.

Marko Arnautovic sealed the deal early in the second half with his first Serie A goal this season.

As a result, Inter ended Gameweek 24 only a point adrift of pacesetters Napoli.
