Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Andrei Radu reveals his struggles following the mistake he made against Bologna in April 2022.

Over the few campaigns, the Nerazzurri have always started the season as the favourites in the Serie A odds. This was also the case in the 2021/22 campaign when they were defending the crown they won in the previous term under the guidance of Antonio Conte.

However, his successor Simone Inzaghi fell just short in his first season at Appiano Gentile. This was largely due to their misstep at the Renato Dall’Ara.

Inter were embroiled in a Scudetto battle for the ages against their crosstown rivals AC Milan. Many believed the Beneamata had the upper hand.

With just four rounds remaining, Inter had the opportunity to take the lead. All they needed to do was beat Bologna in a postponed fixture and put themselves in prime position heading into the final stretch.

During that time, Samir Handanovic was the ultimate first choice at the club. But as fate would have it, Radu got the nod on that particular occasion, something Nerazzurri fans still rue to this day.

In the final minutes of the match, the Romanian made a meal out of a simple clearance, allowing Bologna to score the winner.

This result handed the advantage to Stefano Pioli’s men. The Rossoneri went on to secure the title on the final day of the season in Sassuolo.

Therefore, Radu admitted he had to carry that howler with him for a long time.

“That blunder haunted me for a while,” said the 27-year-old while introducing himself to the press following his transfer to Venezia (via FcInterNews).

“But life has good and bad moments. So you have to move on and I try to focus on current events and doing well.”

Radu finally left Inter for good, signing for Venezia during the winter transfer session.

The Venetians opted to bring in the Romanian due to Filip Stankovic’s injury. Hence, Radu will have the opportunity to reconnect with the Serbian who also rose through the ranks of Inter.

“I knew it was the right place to demonstrate my value. I spoke to Filip Stankovic, who is like a younger brother to me.

“He told me how much he’s enjoying his time at the club. I’m very sorry for him and I will try to demonstrate my value by continuing the good work he has done.”
