Inter Milan hear echoes of an injury to Samir Handanovic in 2020, with regards to the unexpected injury to Yann Sommer this week.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan will have to do without Yann Sommer for a few matches.

The Swiss suffered a thumb injury yesterday. The club confirmed that he had a fracture to his right thumb after medical tests yesterday.

That means that Sommer will miss tomorrow’s Serie A clash with Genoa. And he will also be out for the following weekend’s potential title-decider against Napoli.

Sommer is a big doubt for most of Inter’s matches before the March international break. That includes their Champions League round of sixteen tie.

Inter have been in a fairly similar situation in the recent past.

In the spring of the 2019-20 season, Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic suffered an unexpected injury.

This saw the Slovenian miss a total of three matches in Serie A during that stretch.

It was then-Inter backup keeper Daniele Padelli who started in Handanovic’s place.

This time around, Spaniard Josep Martinez will be the deputy who fills in for Handanovic for Inter Milan.
