Davide Frattesi is in pole position to start in tonight’s Coppa Italia clash between Inter Milan and Lazio at the expense of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old could make his third start for the Nerazzurri in 2025.

Heavily linked with a return to Roma in January, Davide Frattesi failed to complete his transfer to the Stadio Olimpico.

However, his long-term prospects at Giuseppe Meazza are still in the balance.

Indeed, head coach Simone Inzaghi prefers Nicolo Barella over the former Sassuolo star.

Frattesi has started two Serie A matches for Inter this calendar year, most recently in a 3-0 defeat at Fiorentina.

However, he was on the field for 90 minutes in Inter’s 2-0 triumph against Udinese in the previous Coppa Italia round.

With the Nerazzurri heading to Napoli next weekend, Inzaghi could bench Mkhitaryan tonight as a precaution.

Indeed, he’ll likely change all three midfield stalwarts in this evening’s encounter at Meazza.

In addition to Frattesi, Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski should make the starting XI.
