Simone Inzaghi is considering a rare change of formation for Wendesday’s Champions League clash between Feyenoord and Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that an injury crisis could mean the Nerazzurri line up in a 4-4-2 shape.
Inter Milan are now dealing with a full-blown injury crisis.
The Nerazzurri went into Saturday’s top-of-the-table Serie A showdown with Napoli lacking options in the wide areas.
Before the match, all of Matteo Darmian, Carlos Augusto, and Nicola Zalewski were missing.
That left Inzaghi with just two senior wingbacks available against the Partenopei.
Then, Federico Dimarco was unable to play for more than a few minutes of the first half.
The Italian international will undergo medical tests today on a suspected thigh problem. But the sense is that there is very little hope that he can rush back to face Feyenoord.
Inzaghi Considers Rare Change To 4-4-2 For Feyenoord Vs Inter Milan Clash
According to the Gazzetta, Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is considering a very rare move in response to this lack of options on the flanks.
With only Denzel Dumfries available as an out-and-out wingback, the Nerazzurri coach may not use the very familiar 3-5-2 formation.

Instead, reports the Gazzetta, Inzaghi could change things up.
That would be to a 4-4-2 system. This was briefly seen during the match against Napoli, right after Dimarco went off.
Inter switched to a system with Dumfries playing as an attacking winger on the right. Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard played on the left and right respectively of a back four.
The system did not seem to work against Napoli. Inzaghi quickly switched back to a 3-5-2 shape, with Dumfries and Pavard playing out of position.
But Inzaghi may prepare the team to play in that formation from the start in Rotterdam.

There’s no choice Inzaghi should use those minefield players since most are top level players that can adapt and some play in their national teams with different styles and still do well. I think Hakan must be treated delicately because forcing him to play so much might result in losing him entirely for the reminder of the season. Inter have forward players like Correa/Teremi/Arna alongside Lautaro and Thuram. It’s a must win match and Inter should do anything necessary to win the formation doesn’t matter. A narrow win would be a huge win because at home Inter might have a better injury situation
