Davide Frattesi will get his last big chance to impress at Inter Milan while Piotr Zielinski is out with an injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Davide Frattesi’s situation at Inter Milan has been a bit in flux.

The Italian international was strongly linked with a move away during the January transfer window. However, Inter ultimately rejected all offers from Roma and so he stayed at the club.

However, the reason for Frattesi’s apparent desire to leave has been a lack of playing time at Inter.

And that hasn’t really changed much over the second half of this season. The former Sassuolo midfielder has made a few starts here and there – but largely remained a backup option.

But Davide Frattesi should be receiving more playing time over the next few weeks.

Frattesi’s teammate Piotr Zielinski has picked up a calf strain. That injury will prevent Zielinski from playing for at least a month and a half.

Therefore, Inter will be without one of their six senior midfielders.

And with the Nerazzurri playing matches in Serie A, the Champions League, and the Coppa Italia in the coming weeks, coach Simone Inzaghi will have to rotate his squad frequently.

Over the season so far, Zielinski has been more in favour than Frattesi. That means that the Polish international has tended to be the player who Inzaghi turns to.

But with Zielinski on the sidelines, Inzaghi will have to put his trust in Frattesi more frequently.

That will mean more playing time in Serie A. There will also be a Coppa Italia semifinal tie against AC Milan, and potentially a two-legged Champions League quarterfinal.

Frattesi will likely receive playing time across all those matches. Both as a starter and as a substitute.

And Frattesi’s first big opportunity will come this evening. Inter take on Feyenoord in the second leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie.

Davide Frattesi is set to start that match.

Beginning this evening, the 25-year-old has one more big opportunity to write a place for himself in the Inter starting eleven.

If Frattesi is unable to take it, then a summer exit seems inevitable.
