Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani has admitted to being affected by the frustrations of supporters in recent weeks and felt that the reaction has gone too far.
The Albania international endured widespread criticism for a woeful performance in the Supercoppa Italiana Final in Saudi Arabia in January, having been introduced as a first-half substitute and seeing Inter squander a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to AC Milan.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after Albania’s 2-0 defeat to England in 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying at Wembley on Friday, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, Asllani conceded that his performances hadn’t been up to standard but the jeering had become too much.
“Of course Id’ like to stay for many years, I’ve always said I’m an Inter fan, but I don’t want to sit here making promises because it’s meaningless now. I’m focused on the season,” the former Empoli midfielder declared.
“I was booed, I’m not here to tell lies. Surely if they did it they had their reasons, I didn’t play well, I deserved the boos, I’ll take all the negative things.
“But also after the Supercoppa they were too aggressive with me, I didn’t think I deserved that treatment.”
However, Asllani insisted that the support of his teammates meant that he was focused on improving and finding his form again for the Nerazzurri, but felt a lack of consistent playing time was hampering him.
“Having said that, I continue to work calmly, the team is close to me, I have a family that loves me: I continue on my path
“I am 23 years old, I know I can develop. I also know that in these three years I have not shown my qualities very much and often. But I also know that playing little and coming off the bench is a bit difficult.”
Asllani has made 87 appearances for Inter since joining in 2022.
Focus on improving your game instead of worrying about how fans feel about you, when you play well fans will praise you and when you keep playing mediocre fans will also be irritated with you and that’s just the nature of the game.
If that stat was a true and he’s made 87 appearances for us, it’s a travesty!
No-one deserves abuse, but wtf are we doing here?! He even admits himself he’s not up to it. Has been a terrible experiment of gagliardini levels.
Sell, trade whatever and move on..
wish you all the best just not here.
Exactly he’s a great player but for Empoli or other is to relegation teams. He can only himself tho in football just like in life when no risks are taken don’t expect any rewards. He plays way to safe to a point that he makes silly mistakes. It’s not like he can’t raise his game to be noticed so he can play often he just chooses not to in the hopes of staying under the radar. A player like Barella or Hakan or even Mikhi don’t shy away for making things happen and also makes a ton of mistakes along the way but Asllani will keep passing sideways and back thinking he’s already established in the position instead he should be the one picking teams apart with his forward passes which he can do. At this point tho it’s clear he’s not a big team player and should just leave because it’s his mindset rather than his actual skill that’s the problem. Frattesi for instance who’s a proven goal scorer isn’t staying quite on not being used often because he knows his worth and won’t be a surprise for him to score a winning goal in the CL final but for Asllani he can only dream about it.
Frattesi is not anything better than Asllani. It was a mistake to invest money on them.
