Inter Milan legend Wesley Sneijder explains just how pivotal Jose Mourinho was in his transfer from Real Madrid to the Nerazzurri.

The Dutchman played a pivotal part in the club’s historic exploits in 2009/10. Alongside a group of iconic figures that includes Javier Zanetti, Maicon and Diego Milito, he helped the club achieve an unprecedented treble.

Inter clinched the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and most famously, the Champions League during that unforgettable campaign.

But while this feat remains a unique achievement in the club’s history, Simone Inzaghi’s band has the opportunity to replicate it this season.

As things stand, Inter are leading the Serie A table. They are also negotiating a double header against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final. Moreover, the Nerazzurri eliminated Bayern Munich to book a meeting with Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

For sports betting enthusiasts, calculating the odds of this sensational achievement can be quite challenging, as it involves tons of searching, comparing and some mathematical equations. Wesley Sneijder Reveals How Jose Mourinho Convinced Him To Join Inter Milan

Many observers believe Inter possesses one of the strongest midfield units in the world. Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been superb over the years. Moreover, Davide Frattesi can always cause damage off the bench, as he illustrated with his winner against Bayern.

But while we still have to wait to see if this group is capable of achieving the grand slam, Sneijder and Co. have already set the bar high.

Many considered the Dutchman the best playmaker in the world at the time. This same group believes denying him the Ballon d’Or that year was a major disgrace.

Regardless, Sneijder enjoyed an astonishing 2009/10 campaign on a personal level. The retired player has now revealed how it all started with Mourinho’s repeated phone calls.

“Mourinho called me, but we didn’t know each other at the time,” said the former Netherlands international in his interview with Prime Video via FcInterNews.

“He told me that all he needed was the number 10. He said that with me, they could win everything. But all coaches talk like that.

“I didn’t want to leave Real, but he called me every day for two weeks. Then I spoke with my family and my agent and we decided to go.

“After arriving in Italy, I played the Derby the next day and we won 4-0. I didn’t know the team.

“After a few games, I understood that the only thing missing was the number 10. Otherwise, that team was ready to win everything.”
