Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato offered his assessment of the recent ‘retirement’ statement from Inter Milan veteran Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to Amazon Prime via FCInterNews, Alciato believes the Armenian’s hint was nothing more than a ‘joke.’

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Simone Inzaghi addressed the press in the build-up to tonight’s clash against Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old admitted he could hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Despite his age, Mkhitaryan remains a vital first-team asset for Inter, hence the controversy surrounding his announcement.

Mkhitaryan’s contract at the San Siro runs out in 2026.

Though he’ll hardly pen a new deal, everyone close to the Nerazzurri hopes he’ll stay until next summer.

However, the ex-Roma midfielder could still change his mind, especially if he wins a treble this season.

Indeed, Inzaghi’s men are in contention for a coveted ‘triple crown,’ with Mkhitaryan essential to this quest.

Achieving such a prominent feat would be a fitting way to say goodbye to football.

However, the ex-Armenia international still has gas in the tank.
