AC Milan pulled off a stunning 3-0 win against bitter rivals Inter in tonight’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg at San Siro.
Luka Jovic scored on either side of halftime to hand Sergio Conceicao’s side a comfortable two-goal cushion.
Then, Tijjani Reijnders put the final nail in the coffin of Inter’s treble hopes in the 85th minute.
It was the fifth time Inter failed to beat Milan this season.
Furthermore, they lost three of those five meetings, including the Supercoppa Italiana final in January.
Per Opta, Inter have lost three Derby della Madonnina editions in one season for the third time in club history.
The last time that happened was in 2004/05.
3 – #Milan have won three derbies against #Inter in a single season considering all competitions for only the third time in their history, after 2004-05 and 1971-72. Success.#DerbyMilano pic.twitter.com/c3VzVbbTyY

After that bitter defeat it has to be said at some point blaming Inzaghi isn’t fair. He and almost everyone see the CL then the scudetto as the main target so playing those players who would never start in an important match shows that he needs proper reinforcements. It was tempting to see him keep Barella but if the guy is injured it would truly be a disaster. Correa, Taremi, Asllani and sadly even Bisseck are not Inter material. Even Zalewski looked lost who looked too timid. Even Mikhi who constantly make mistake after mistake is way better than those players in this system and he as well must be replaced. Changing coach would be the wrong thing but getting decent players is a must
SoloInter, I completely agree with you. It really pisses me off to see that Inzaghi has developed the habit of ignoring the Primavera players when it actually matters. Using three of them yesterday could have given the team fresh legs and allowed some key players the much-needed rest. I genuinely wonder how our youth sector is expected to develop if they’re not occasionally integrated with the first team, gaining the experience and confidence required to compete at the highest level. Losing three times to Milan in a single season is simply unacceptable for a club of Inter’s stature, especially losing to a team languishing in 9th place in the Serie A table. Maybe some of our players are seriously overrated. No one seems to step up in Thuram’s absence. The playing level drops, and the squad looks exhausted in the second half of games. Let’s face it. We have one of the oldest squads in the league, and it’s crying out for a complete overhaul this summer. Oaktree and Marotta need to wake up and make the right investments in the squad. My greatest fear now is finishing this season without a trophy. If that happens (God forbid), it’ll be hard to forgive Inzaghi.
