Lautaro Martinez is unlikely to return for Inter Milan in the second leg against Barcelona, but Benjamin Pavard could.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that Martinez will undergo medical tests tomorrow.

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez started yesterday’s Champions League semifinal first leg against Barcelona.

However, it became evident that the Argentine was dealing with a physical problem.

Martinez was able to see out the entire first half. However, he had to come off at halftime, with Mehdi Taremi replacing him.

According to Sky, Martinez will undergo tests tomorrow with Inter’s medical staff.

These will reveal that exact nature and severity of the 27-year-old’s injury.

However, reports Sky, it does not look at all likely that Martinez will be able to return for the second leg against Barcelona.

The Nerazzurri host the Blaugranas on Tuesday evening at the San Siro.

Martinez had started every one of Inter’s matches back from the international break, apart from the first leg of a Coppa Italia semifinal against AC Milan.

Evidently, the effort has caught up with the Argentine striker.

According to Sky, however, there is more hope that defender Benjamin Pavard will be back.

The Frenchman missed the first leg against Barcelona yesterday.

This was due to an ankle sprain that he had picked up against Roma on Sunday evening.

Therefore, Yann Bisseck started in place of Pavard.

Naturally, the timeline for Pavard to return is tight.

However, reports Sky, behind the scenes there is some hope for the former Bayern Munich defender.

The broadcaster anticipate that the next few days will be decisive. The Inter medical staff haven’t given up hope that Pavard could make a quick return to fitness for Tuesday’s match.
