Paolo Di Canio feels that a Nicolo Rovella shove on Yann Bisseck in Inter Milan’s 2-2 Serie A draw with Lazio should’ve been a penalty.
The former striker gave his thoughts on Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908. He argued that it was a foul “ten times out of ten” in midfield, and also said that the Lazio penalty was “stonewall.”
Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Lazio this evening was filled with drama.
And among this was plenty of refereeing controversy.
Both of Lazio’s goals came after a VAR check. The first was initially disallowed for an offside in the buildup before the video showed that it was in fact offside.
Meanwhile, Inter conceded a penalty very late on for a Yann Bisseck handball. However, referee Daniele Chiffi did not spot the infringement in real time, needing a second luck after consulting with VAR.
Di Canio: “Rovella Shove On Bisseck A Penalty 10/10 Times” In Inter 2-2 Lazio
Meanwhile, there were a couple big moments inside the Lazio penalty area.
Firstly, there was a moment in the first half when Biancocelesti midfielder Nicolo Rovella looked to have shoved over Inter defender Yann Bisseck as he was charging into the area.
Bisseck furiously appealed for a penalty. However, referee Chiffi waved the appeals away. And VAR did not intervene.
Meanwhile, Inter also briefly thought that they’d scored the most dramatic of late winners.
However, a VAR check confirmed that Marko Arnautovic was in an offside position.
Of the first half incident, former striker Paolo Di Canio commented that “Rovella’s push on Bisseck in midfield is a free kick.”
“So why is it not a penalty when it’s in the area? I ask myself.”
“If it’s a foul, it’s a foul,” Di Canio argued.
“In midfield, ten referees out of ten would give that as a foul.”
Then, Paolo Di Canio argued that “the penalty for Lazio is stonewall, as clear as it gets.”
“He makes himself bigger with his arm,” the former striker argued.
“It’s Bisseck’s attitude that’s wrong. You have to know how to act in terms of defensive tactics, that arm can’t be there. Why does Bisseck make that jump?”
I don’t agree – Bisseck threw himself over, wider context it’s becoming a problem lots of our players are starting to do it, Thuram and Dumfries especially falling over anticipating a touch… I don’t like to see it.
I’m sure sometimes they waste a perfectly good scoring chance trying to “win” a penalty.
As for the notorious chicken wing of Bisseck, man that guy is dumb. Sommer already saved his ass earlier where the commentators blamed Bastoni but it was Bisseck miles up the pitch leaving Bastoni and acerbi to cover 4 guys…
The guy is a liability.
Yes he grabs the odd goal but he cannot defend for toffee
100% agree but still given a penalty while your hands are behind is very cruel especially if that penalty defines who wins the trophy. In fact if his hands were just in normal position it would be clear he was intentionally trying to block the ball with his elbow. How many players have done what Bisseck did and not get a penalty simply because their hands were behind because if VAR checks that they can make the argument that he’s moving towards the ball due to slow motion but since he purposely putting his hands out it means theirs nothing else he can do other than staying completely still to avoid getting hit on his hands which means it won’t be football anymore
But the fact still remains Bisseck is a liability when defending deep especially in key matches he has actually to remain consistency in that aspect which means who in their right mind keeps letting the guy finish the matches. Just sub him out he’s no longer needed when Inter are leading but very good when Inter needs a goal
Bisseck was naive to open his arm at the last moment. Anyways, as I had said Napoli would win the Scudetto. Better move on and focus on the UCL final. It is there where I really see a chance for trophy. We either win the UCL or end up empty-handed this season. Don’t waste starters’ energy with Como to no avail.
