Beppe Marotta admits Inter Milan were “outclassed in every way” against PSG, but feels that nothing changes about the future of Simone Inzaghi.
The Nerazzurri President addressed Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the humbling Champions League final defeat.
Inter Milan came into this evening’s match with a chance to make history.
And in a sense, that’s what the Nerazzurri did. They lost a Champions League final by the widest margin of any team in history.
From the first minutes, Inter struggled to cope with the pace, intensity, and precision of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Nerazzurri chased shadows trying to win the ball back. Then when they were able to get possession, they looked sloppy and rushed.
Meanwhile, defensively Inter put up little resistance against a PSG team who were ruthless and direct.
The end result was a Champions League final loss that was very different from that of two years ago.
Whereas Inter had lost by the narrowest of margins against Manchester City in 2023, this evening they never had a hope of getting a result against PSG.
Marotta: “Inter Outclassed Vs PSG, Nothing Changes With Inzaghi”

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta called this final “a negative evening.”
“Our opponents outclassed us in every way,” he went on.
“This loss was deserved me. That was clear to me, regardless of the scoreline.”
“But this can’t affect what the season has been,” Marotta continued. “Just think about the journey we made to get this far in the Champions League.”
“We were playing against a very strong team,” the Inter President said.
“We’re sorry to the fans who came so far to watch us. But it was an absolutely negative evening.”
“It was very difficult for us to get here,” Marotta continued.
“We got here very deservedly, by beating Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Then, we fell apart and looked very fragile here.”
“But I still want to thank the coach and his staff,” the Nerazzurri President insisted.
“The journey we’ve made over the last 59 matches shows that this team deserves to be here.”
“We lost,” Marotta said. “Now a bracket closes.”
And as far as the future of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi after this evening’s debacle, Marotta said that there is “no change.”
“I said that Inzaghi and I would meet next week. He still has a year left to go on his contract, but he’s shown above all in the last four years ago that he’s up to his role here.”
“Much credit has to go to his professionalism,” Marotta said of Inter’s coach.
“It’s not as though a negative evening erases all that credit. We’ll meet to discuss it, regardless of how this evening went.”
In terms of money despite losing inter finished with enough money to make an overhaul with the backing from the owners. Inzaghi did everything he can to make the club competitive but in reality even serie a side’s strengthen their squad and inter didn’t. He also need to start accepting sometimes risking to play something different than what you normally do is important instead better opponents can predicts your every move and just stop you
It’s not Inzhagi’s fault !! Yes Inzhagi makes mistakes sometimes like insisting to play very old players like Acherbi and Mikhitrian in a young man sport. But let’s be real !!!! Inzhagi is a great coach who squeezed everything possible from a team which managed by a board of directors who didn’t spend a single euro to back him up. Signing old free agents is not how you win the champions league. The management of Inter didn’t provide any help to Inzhagi for 2 years. It’s time to buy some younger players who can make this Inter team play like wild dogs as PSG played today. All of them are young talents. Playing against Acherbi, Milhatrian, Hakan !!!! Come on let’s be real.
then why inzaghi didnt find any primavera players that has the talent? the primavera inter won cup this season. Its inzaghi fault. he stubborn with his same tactics.
i dont know if you have short term memory loss. but all the good primevera players either get sold for 10-15 mill or get loaned out with options to buy, this has been inters policy to raise funds to close the debts we collected post 2010 high wages, and ffp coming into play made massimo moratti have no opinion but to sell.
bottom line is that the Management left him high and dry.
in any case i dont think inzaghi wants to stay after this result. achievement wise he exceeded expectation. but this result in the final is so soury not to mention the performance. we did not even try
“achievement wise he exceeded expectation”
He exceeded expectations in the UCL. In Serie A though, he has been a failure. In 4 seasons, despite having the best team at his disposal, he won just a single Scudetto. Far from he should have achieved.
we looks unprepared. just like facing another game week in serie A. while many content analys simones tactic, glorifying our achievement against barca n munchen but no evaluation. yess we beat them, but in those 4 match we concedes 9goals. even if we try to normalized that by saying they both are top european team. but this also happen in serie a. its not bout missing key players in defense like pavard, but its more than that. n as a team who known as team with good defense n rely so much on defense, its serious warning. instead of evaluating, we just ignore it n choose to blaming personal error.
for me, di marco is decline since forget when maybe 2025 n im sure he himself wont deny it. but we keep placing him on starting XI as long as hes not injured.
mhiki n hakan is also declining, yess hakan still score sometimes in those period but overall hes shadow of himself. its like brozo in his final season. n i think zalewski playing better in mhiki position. barela could play in hakan position. n fratessi/zelienski or even corea fill barela post.
only in front, i agree, theres nothing we can do. we just can hope arna or tahremi are having good day. which maybe can only be happen like 1 in every 10 games.
thing we should fix is finding rotational players ,not only back up, for di marco, hakan, barela, dumdum, n also front. replace mhiki, darmian n acerbi. thanks for their contribution but its time to move forward.
agree with that, good point.. people saying it’s not inzaghi fault!! is moron!!! stupid fanboy… same tactic, use useless n old player,
WELL SAID!!!
Oh cmon, how is he not at fault?
We were outplayed, the quality was fifty-fifty if we weren’t the better side altogether.
He went into the final with no plan, he went to defend against PSG, ffs.
We have a great team, regardless that we get the players with little money.
Inzaghi will still purchase slow players to fit his 3-5-2 formation. We are still going to play like old men with the players Inzaghi want.
No team in the history of the UCL has been humiliated to this degree. Inzaghi was outplayed by Luis Enrique. His players could easily predict ours bc Luis Enrique had prepared them well.
The club this season has earned over 150 mln more than last season, according to media reports. If so, spend at least 100 mln + the money from players to be sold to build a strong, fresh team with high quality, proven young talents. At least 100 mln in net spending is needed; there are many spots to be refreshed.
