Veteran defender Sergio Ramos is just one aspect of what Inter Milan will face in the form of Monterrey at the Club World Cup.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, note the presence of two other former La Liga stars as well as an attack-minded 4-2-3-1 formation.
Inter Milan will face Monterrey in their first group stage match at the Club World Cup.
That will be an interesting opportunity for the Nerazzurri to take on a Mexican team in a competitive match. This will be the first non-European side they’ve faced in quite some time.
And Inter will certainly know not to underestimate the Mexican club.
Not Just Sergio Ramos – What Inter Milan Can Expect From Monterrey

First of all, there is the matter of one particularly notable name on the teamsheet for Monterrey.
Defender Sergio Ramos may have turned 39 this year. However, the iconic former Real Madrid captain still has the pace and physicality – as well as the experience – to cut a formidable figure in defense.
Ramos suffered an injury in April. However, he has always been targeting a return for the Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport note, there is not just Ramos as a notable name from La Liga.
Argentine winger Lucas Ocampos is certainly a familiar face within European football. The 30-year-old joined Monterrey from Sevilla in 2024.
Previously, Ocampos had also played for the likes of Monaco, Marseille, Genoa, AC Milan, and Ajax.
Then, attacking midfielder Sergio Canales had always won praise for his performances for teams like Real Sociedad and Real Betis in the Spanish top flight.
All of these players will likely line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. They are coached by Spanish tactician Domenec Torrent.
Torrent had been the assistant to Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He has also had notable spells with clubs like Galatasaray and Flamengo.
And Inter Milan can certainly expect a proactive, high-tempo, and attacking use of the 4-2-3-1 shape from Torrent’s team next week.
