Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu feels that Sebastiano Esposito and Luis Henrique did well in today’s Club World Cup draw with Monterrey.
The new Nerazzurri coach gave his thoughts to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews. He also outlined aspects that Inter can improve upon.
Inter Milan faced Monterrey in their first match of the Club World Cup group stage.
The Nerazzurri dominated possession, and created a number of good chances against the Mexican side. However, they were far from clinical with the dangerous situations they had.
On the other hand, Monterrey were able to fashion a number of decent chances. Particularly on the counterattack and from set pieces.
Therefore, Inter kicked off their Club World Cup campaign by settling for a point. Sergio Ramos opened the scoring for Monterrey, before Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez responded with the equalizer.
Both of those goals came before halftime. Then, in the second half neither of the two teams was able to get on the scoresheet again.
This match was also the beginning of a new era for Inter. It was the first with Cristian Chivu as coach after the departure of Simone Inzaghi.
Cristian Chivu: “Esposito & Henriquew Did Well” Vs Monterrey

In his first match as Inter coach, Cristian Chivu started Sebastiano Esposito. The 22-year-old is back from a loan with Empoli, and the Romanian gave him a chance in the lineup.
Meanwhile, the Romanian also handed Luis Henrique his Inter debut as a second half substitute.
Chivu said after the match that “we had a good first, even though we went behind.”
“We caused problems for them with our rotations. We could have attacked in behind their defense better, and not been caught offside.”
Chivu then noted that “in the second half, we were a bit slower in possession.”
“We created a few chances. But we lacked a bit of cutting edge in front of goal.”
Meanwhile, Chivu said that striker Sebastiano Esposito “played at the level of the team as a whole.”
‘They tried to play against a deep block that left us offside a lot. It wasn’t easy. But he played well.”
And then, Chivu stated that Luis Henrique “can do better,”
“But he’s not in condition yet. Because he’s only had two training session, and taking that into account I liked what I saw from him.”
Chivu stated that Henrique “has personality, and technique.”
“He has courage, and the ability to take players on one-on-one.”
True inter fans should not be cursing each other out, it’s ok for us to disagree on the direction the club and seri a is going but it’s not ok or cool to keep cursing each other out because someone sees things differently from the other person, I have been an inter fan for over 25yrs and have experienced so many heart breaks and have also disliked some players or coaches over the decades but one thing I will not do is to keep cursing my fellow inter fans. Let’s all embrace each other for the good of Inter and be positive, I am still bitter and angry with the 5:0 lost to psg and coming here to read comments should be a positive experience not something that keeps dragging the inter spirit in us down. We are Internationale and are all brothers and sisters. Forza inter always
Well I don’t recall being abusive to anybody… I am only expressing myself on the state of serie a which is clear for everybody to see… What baffles me is that rather than engage in a good discussion (to be fair I have had a couple and they all ended amicably and with respect) more often than not, my views which are the truth are often responded with abuse, or the statement “leave serie a”, or “you are daft”. I have never called an individual here daft, but yes, I say serie a management is/are daft, and I will not sugarcoat or deny this… The truth is that I’m used to being at the receiving end of weird views and while some may seem my views unpopular, results never lie and no one can dispute this….
We will see whether they’ll be used… Remember Buchanan??? He was seldom used despite showing he had some good qualities… Inzaghi preferred the EXPERIENCED Darmian… As for your talk about Real Madrid, PSG and the likes… You are free to say what you want.. But you know the truth… Serie a is weak… No UCL in 15 years… YOU CANNOT CHANGE THAT FACT.. In the past 15 years, how many have la liga, EPL, Bundesliga and now ligue 1 teams won? How many Europa leagues? Keep deluding yourself… KDB yes he’s a top player, but why would a serie a team sign him now that he’s 34? What’s stopping them from scouting actively and catching De Bruyne-esque players at a younger age? Well, there’s no point typing so much… Your mind is warped in the name of fanfare, but one thing never lies…. RESULTS…. LOL
Average looking team cant even score 2 goals. I’m considering supporting another team soon if things dont go well.
Take Davide, Okecukwu, and else with you, and never come back.
Well said!!
Same formation 3-5-2 reading game of inter
Miki should not start anymore every game slow player bad playing.
Thuram every game dont feel good.
Luis Henrique should start every game, i dont remember when Inter has player like Henrique who dribles fast.
Carlos Augusto very good in attack and deffense he could made two assist if Inter player didnt miss chances for goals.
Inter needs to play with a double pivot and an AM behind the strikers. A midfielder with a lot of stamina and movement is needed, someone like Ederson or Jashari. The budget does not allow this summer, but in the next a quality creative midfielder is needed.
We will wait and see what happens in the mercato…. If inter and the rest of serie a likes, let them keep making daft signings.. Like De Bruyne to Napoli (its funny I actually predicted this)…. Well, there’s still time.. I guess we’ll see…
So, you’re just ignoring the fact that Inter signed Luis Henrique (23 years old) and Sucic (22 years old) and are targeting young players like you prefer, since age is all that matters to you.
KDB is still a top footballer, without him, Man City wouldn’t have reached the heights they did recently, but okay. I guess Barcelona are daft too since their main striker is Lewandowski, am I right?
You’re arguments aren’t even logically consistent. You keep moving the goal post to fit your narrative, and even then your arguments have no foundations. It’s laughable.
Oh btw, Real Madrid tied against a Saudi team who has Benzema as their striker. I guess the Spanish league is weak too, am I right? It’s even weaker if we consider the fact that PSG destroyed Atletico too. That means Ligue 1 is better than La Liga according to your retarded logic. Oh, and better than the Premier League too since they beat City, Liverpool, Villa and Arsenal on their way to the CL final.
In his mind, footbal player only play until 25 yo. After that, they must retire.. Otherwise, everyone is daft, except himself.
We are suffering because of Marotta Oaktree should sack him,he is not proactive and also not a smart guy that’s why he has lost all four champions League finals.
As usual, we have the morons which cannot wait for things to go wrong, but looking at the game objectively, there was a few positives to take….
Generally speaking, we moved the ball a lot faster than of late, and played some good football…
Henrique looked lively considering he has only just arrived, and Sucic was very crisp with his passing, so definitely positives to take from the debutants….
Anyone who thought that this team would recover immediately from the disaster in Munich simply doesn’t understand humans, never mind football!!
Chivu has a lot of work to do, but this would be the same for any coach, no matter who we brought in!! A lot of these players problems are a mixture of mental and physical exhaustion, but regardless of the coach, some of these players need to look at themselves…. Barella just isn’t the same player, DiMarco (who has been my favourite player for years) looks massively overweight, Thuram hasn’t looked the same since the turn of the year… these are key players, and only they can change their attitude and mindset….
We still have massive issues within the squad, and Oaktree are going to have to loosen the purse strings, if they want things to get better! Acerbi, Darmian and Miki are done, but unless replacements are brought in, what can Chivu do?
The coach is in a tough position, but I would say that we should probably forget about the results for now, and at least see what the likes of Carboni, Berenbruck, and Pio Esposito (when fit) can bring to the team…. As great as he’s been, I also think the transition from Sommer to Martinez should happen sooner than later…
What we need to do right now is show patience, and hope that by the start of the season, we are in a position to start a much younger starting 11, but a lot of that lies with Oaktree, not Chivu….
“Thanks, @Inglese Ultra. I hope they understand this before they start blaming the coach. Yesterday’s Inter match was the most enjoyable one I’ve watched in a long time.”
Definitely some positives for sure! of course we all wanted a win, but Chivu will need some time to implement his style, and hopefully his new players….
Thats true i think that Thuram hasnt been the same since he got braids nah but seriously your right
Still no youngsters were used… Daft league…
haha
Dude, you literally had to wait until the very last match of the season to show up and make your usual comment. The fact that it took you so long to show up makes your point invalid. I can only imagine you deleting your “daft” comment when Acerbi of all people scored against Barcelona in the dying minutes of the match. LOL
Whatever man.. Inter lost 5 nil… No emotion or fanfare is gonna change that… Plus Italy has failed to qualify for 2 consecutive world cups… Want more facts??
What about the fact that Italy won the 2020 Euro. You’re just going to omit that fact?
Italy won it… Yeah. And I celebrated it if you remember correctly cause that’s what I want… A strong league, and Italy to succeed.. It’s annoying seeing how low Italian football has been of late… Not qualifying for 2 consecutive world cups… That’s unbelievable, and there is a chance they may not qualify for the third time, and you guys are here ignoring the obvious problems…
Still knocked out Bayern and Barca though, you know, that team full of academy players that made ACERBI look like a prime Van Basten in the box LMAO. They must be daft too since they have Lewandowski as their striker, am I right?
What about the fact that Italy won the 2020 Euro. You’re just going to omit that fact? While were at it, what about Germany? They’re doing so great, huh? Couldn’t make it out of the WC group stage in 2018 (a group that had Mexico, Sweden, and Korea in it and they ended dead last) and couldn’t made it out of the group stage in 2022 either. You might as well not even make it to the WC at that point.
@Okechukwu Okoro, you’re free to follow another league if you think this one is so ‘daft.’ Pretty sure no one’s forcing you to watch it.”
Of course not.. And no one can force me out as well… Lol
but if you still here, it means you’re daft.. lol
Well, that’s your opinion…
Serie a sides are weak.. Whether you guys here want to admit it or not… Lots of self-reflection needed, if not, Portuguese, Eredivisie and even the Belgian league (no disrespect to them) will become better than serie a…
If serie a sides are as weak as you say, how come Roma won the conference league four years ago, made it to the EL final a year after? How come Fiorentina made it to the Conference League final two years in a row and made it as far as semi finals this year? How come Inter made it to two out of the last three CL finals? How come Serie A had 5 teams (based on coefficients) in the CL this past season?
Belgium, Portuguese, and Erevidisie will surpass Serie A? Based on what exactly? Give me evidence that these leagues will surpass Serie A, I’ll wait. Benfica, Porto, Brugge, Anderlecth, Sporting, Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord… what have these teams accomplished in Europe lately?
Look, Serie A fell off after Calciopoli. Everybody and their grandma knows this. Serie A even lost a fourth spot in CL in the 2010’s because it fell off and even then Juve managed to make it to two finals. Since then, Serie A has managed to do everything I mentioned above. Those are signs that the league is better than it was 10 years ago, not the opposite. Does Serie A need to do better? Of course. But the situations isn’t even remotely as dire as you make it out to be.
I even forgot to mention Atalanta winning EL last season by thrashing Liverpool and Leverkusen. So much for a weak league.
I was the same person that said “Thank you atalanta” for putting serie a back in the map somewhat… Keep being selective in your facts… You cannot contend with me cause I know and remember all my posts…
Learn to read man… Read the statement again before you comment okay..
You literally said Serie A is weak and that the Primeira Liga, Belgian Pro League, and Erevidisie will overtake Serie A, which is completely absurd. What have Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord accomplish for you to make this retarded prediction? Serie A has teams making deep runs on all three tournaments and actually winning some. Can’t say the same for these other teams.
Mr Chivu your days are numbered, inter play so pathetic, the old players keep losing ball’mhiktarin,Acerbi, Darmian, Berella,Agusto and Aslanni..all were so boring on pitch, this is not the inter we once known.tired of these finished products
Don’t mind some fans here.. They feel inter or serie a should not be criticised when it is so obvious that they are subpar… Ooh well, no saving these folks…
Bro how did we draw againts MONTERREY wtf
Cause serie a is weak….
look at those players, exchausted
and new coach only several days ago
do we expect to perform like prime Inter?
Esposito should never ever wear this shirt again….He’s a complete disgrace for our club and especially our youth sistem… Was a humble boy when was 17 and since then he changed 7 teams in 5 years… Now his a complete failure
Chill bro, the team moved well, give them a chance wiil you?
No the guy is not good they should sell him now.
disgrace? wtf are you drunk for
he scores 8 league goals this season while playing for relegation team
7 teams in 5 years… For sure you re the drunk one… The guy is complete rubbish, nobody what’s him… Thanks God his contract runs out next year
Inter still looked physically and mentally exhausted.
Also clubs that win get 2 millions and for a draw they get 1 million. Good Job Marotta!
David how is your Milan doing I heard your management want to copy PSG style of play it’s true hahaha.
Another blow to inter statistically. Javier Zanetti held the record for the oldest player to score in the World Cup for Clubs. Now Ramos holds the record after scoring against mediocre inter
Hahaha.. Teams use serie a teams to break records…
yes. Inter will be in serie C. They will de relegated, all is shit, the team in bad, the management is bad, the fans are bad, the only good thing is you. are you happy?
Watch other teams that play better football. Wtf is wrong with you? Where the f where you when Ze Elias missed? Where the f were you when we got crashed by Arsenal with Zaccheroni on the bench in the UCL? Where the f were you 26 years ago in the famous season with 4 managers when we finished on 8th? And you keep taking sh*t about relegation and bad football. If you pretend you are the mega fan that you pretend than you know there were many years when Inter actually had bad football. See Gasperini on the bench or Lucescu. You talk about bad players? See Gresko.
But for sure, you know football better than Zanetti, management better than Marotta and tactics better than Inzaghi. GTFO man!
Chill bro. They are not even a fans, eventhough they call themselves as a “true fans”, “smart fans”, etc, and call others “delusional fans”, “stupid fans”, etc etc. They are a hater for sure. They enjoys to troll and throwing shits here. They appears when Inter lost or draw or in trouble, but then missing when Inter win.
Forget those people, just assume they are not here.
Well said…. just don’t give them the satisfaction… there are users on here who I simply don’t interact with, because I’d get more sense out of my dogs….
Well, your dogs are probably smarter than serie a management as well, as they’ve exhibited DAFTNESS for more than a decade… Probably longer than you “DOGS’ lives on earth…
haha
Esposito was def better than Thuram, and Henrique was nice to watch. LFG!!
