Lautaro Martinez feels that Inter Milan “have to be humble” after their 2-1 FIFA Club World Cup win over Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Nerazzurri captain spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. He also reacted to his own acrobatic equalizer from the second half.
Inter Milan had to do it the hard way against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Nerazzurri had nearly all of the possession of the ball. However, they conceded early on, with Ryoma Watanabe scoring after they were caught out completely on the break within the first fifteen minutes.
From then on, the pattern was clear. Urawa Reds dug in and defended their penalty area, whilst Inter tried to break them down.
That proved to be a very difficult task. The Japanese team defended with composure, physicality, and organization. They didn’t allow Inter any time or space to create telling chances.
In the end, it was Inter captain Lautaro Martinez who finally found the back of the net. And it was with Inter’s first shot on target of the match.
The Argentine scored with an acrobatic overhead kick from a corner.
And then, it proved to be substitute Valentin Carboni who was decisive. The 20-year-old scored in stoppage time to break Urawa hearts and give Inter a vital first win at the Club World Cup.
Lautaro Martinez Declares “Inter Have To Be Humble” After Urawa Red Diamonds Win

After the match, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez commented that “we said it in the first match, and at the start of the tournament: all the matches will be like this.”
‘I’m from South America,” the 27-year-old continued. “And I’ve seen how the South Americans are playing as well.”
“They have so much heart,” Martinez said of teams from his home continent.

Nerazzurri captain Martinez reflected that “as a team we have to raise our sense of pride.”
“We have to be humble and learn to suffer,” he went on.
“We’re sorry to have conceded a goal from their only shot. We have to improve.”
“Now we have one last match to play in the group,” said Martinez.
Martinez then admitted that “our quality sometimes drops against teams who run a lot and defend well.”
“We have to get our hands dirty,” the Inter captain declared. “Because these are the things that count, and we have to grow.”
“But we’re humble. Otherwise we wouldn’t have lifted the trophies we have in recent years.”
As far as his acrobatic goal, Martinez explained that “I was expecting that ball.”
“I said to myself: ‘This is my opportunity.’ I thought about it, and when you think about things and you want them, it definitely makes them easier.”
what is the hate on bisseck?! he is very good
Inter needs to make squad changes accordingly to what Chivu wants. Inzaghi played slow defensive football while using wingbacks as main source of attack and had players that matched his style. Chivu needs players that can adapt his football as we saw yesterday some players could not adapt to the fast pace possesion football which Chivu seems like is trying to implement.
all the players who have been here ain’t capable of that as simone tried the same thing for few matches and it failed horribly. to be frank, quick passes is hard to pull off unless you’re barca team under pep and you have messi and iniesta. i don’t like whatever is chivu trying for the last 2 matches. it might work against high pressing teams
i think typical lautaro is back. he wont give you easy and common goals. instead, he will give you xuper and unpredictable goals
I like how Carboni, Sucic and Pio looked hungry and showed their quality. Now it’s to get the old blood out Asslani and Bisseck who has failed thus far. Inter cannot play another season with those two. Dimarco as well is a failure and should be sold. only a few bad players spoil the bunch.
I understand the frustration about Dimarco but he’s not a failure the other two however (Aslani and Bisseck) are proven failures all at different ways with Asllani being just bang on average and Bisseck who is a single player who has done more damage to Inter last season than other attackers inter faced because of how clumsy he is when defending. Dimarco is not good defensively but going forward there are only a few players who can do what he can and he showed that multiple times. Inter changing to a different formation can benefit a player like Dimarco because his strongest abilities is not defending but that doesn’t make him useless
Last season, Inzaghi tactics wants defender especially Side Defender to attack, the result is unstability at defence. I would give Bisseck another chance because Chivu didnt want that stupid tactics been deploy.
The problem with Dimarco in defence is that he leaves too much space between him and the player that is attacking, which leads to a dangerous shot or cross. Since Dimarco is fast he should stick to the player and he should not alow so much gap. I can understand that method of defending in Acerbi or DeVrij since they don’t have a pace but Dimarco must change that kond of approach.
One of the things we also need to change is our fitness coaching team. I think they did a terrible job last season. Our players looked tired and unprepared from the beginning of the season. And I hope that Chivu can change the approach of defending. We can not sit and defend from our box the entire game, we should rather press the opponent in their own half. We need as well someone to replace Hakan and Mkhi since they can’t properly press and cut the oponent. I’m thankful for everything they did but it is time for something new.
Those are some things I wanted to highlight after the CL finals but I was too devastated after the result.
dima ain’t fast especially now with his fat belly
